Maryland Likely To Continue Momentum for Trump, Clinton (Trump 43%, Kasich 29%, Cruz 24%)

PPP's new Maryland poll finds both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton with double digit leads heading into next week's primary election.

Trump isn't looking as dominant as he is in New York, polling at 43%. But he's benefiting from a similar dynamic to the Empire State in that there is no clear alternative to him- John Kasich and Ted Cruz are closely matched for second place at 29% and 24% respectively. Trump is by far the most broadly popular candidate among GOP voters in the state with a 57/37 favorability rating compared to 48/35 for Kasich and 33/50 for Cruz. This is a state where even if the field was winnowed to two candidates Trump would still have an advantage- he leads Kasich by 12 points at 53/41 and Cruz by 20 points at 54/34 in head to head match ups.

Another thing that speaks to the indecision among anti-Trump voters is that only 53% of Kasich voters and 49% of Cruz voters say they're firmly committed to voting for their current candidate of choice, compared to 90% of Trump voters who say they're definitely with him. If New York's results tonight give any sort of clarity on the stronger candidate between Cruz and Kasich that could help one of them to gain some momentum in Maryland with so many of their voters willing to shift allegiances.

Sounds like Trump is killing it. How this breaks down in the congressional districts, I'm not sure, but it's clear Trump is going to do well in Maryland in a week.

Trump will clean sweep the 26th, and Cruz will come in third place, as often as not, between now and then.

I agree and the momentum he will likely get out of New York will only help!

I see Cruz consistently below Kasich these days.

Never thought that would happen. Kasich shouldn’t even be in the race at this point. Jindal, Walker,...even Christie is a better choice than Kasich.

By the end of next Tuesday the futility of a Cruz nomination at a contested convention will be laid bare... no one is going to give the nomination to someone who’s only win east of the Mississippi is ME and who is coming in last place during the closing stretch.

Cruz knows he can’t get the nomination, he’s just in it to hope to be spoiler so he can get whatever was agreed to in the back room deal with the establishment....

Washington insider games at their finest.

Trump IS going to win ALL of the six primaries, starting with N.Y., today and by BIG leads!

Cruz AND KaSICKO should both be out now, but after tonight at the latest. Sadly, they won’t do that and Ted still “believes that he is somehow going to win the nomination. He is delusional!

Gawd it is a relief from Cruz for the rest of April. Sweet relief.

His campaign is all negative and his insincerity is now palpable.

And it never occurs to you guys to question why Trump is going to run so strong in the liberal strongholds of the Northeast, does it?

But it’s ok...because by golly you’re gonna stick a shiv in the GOPe no matter if you do it by electing the liberals 3rd favorite candidate in this race or not!

Very conservative voters like Ted Cruz

That has been true since Iowa.

Calling us a “cult” is unnecessary — especially on a conservative board like Free Republic.

Your post might make sense if Trump didn’t run strongly in the South, Mid Atlantic, and Midwest as well. Ted! wouldn’t have the problems that he has if he had actually won where he was supposed to, that being the South. Does it ever occur to Cruz supporters to question why Ted can’t win in the South, the Midwest, the Mid Atlantic, the Northeast, and probably the Far West? Ted can only win small caucus states in the Plains states or those states whey nobody votes. Seems like Trump is a national candidate as opposed to Ted whose not even a regional one.
