Scientists led by Dr David Fairlie from the University of Queensland, Australia, have found abnormal amounts of an inflammatory protein called PAR2 in the fat tissues of overweight and obese rats and humans. PAR2 is also increased on the surfaces of human immune cells by common fatty acids in the diet. When obese rats on a diet high in sugar and fat were given a new oral drug that binds to PAR2, the inflammation-causing properties of this protein were blocked, as were other effects of the high-fat and high-sugar diet, including obesity itself.
"This important new finding links obesity and high fat, high sugar diets with changes in immune cells and inflammatory status, highlighting an emerging realization that obesity is an inflammatory disease," Dr Fairlie said. ..... < snip >
..... To make the discovery, the team discovered the first potent, selective and orally bioavailable small molecule antagonists of PAR2 and characterized their functional responses in inflammatory cellular and animal models.
They found that PAR2 expression is increased in vivo in adipose tissue from obese humans and rats, stimulated in vitro in human macrophages by the dietary fatty acid palmitic acid, and inhibited in vivo and in vitro by a PAR2 antagonist. This antagonist was then used as a tool to dissect roles for PAR2 activation in mediating metabolic dysfunction in human monocyte-derived macrophages (HMDM), human and rodent adipocytes, and diet-induced obesity in rats.
Oral treatment of diet-induced obese rats attenuated PAR2 signaling in adipose tissue and inhibited adipose inflammation, insulin resistance, diet-induced obesity and cardiovascular abnormalities.
This is the first report that a PAR2 antagonist improves obesity, glucose homeostasis and obesity-associated chronic inflammation in vivo. ..... < snip >

If you’re obese..you’re likely eating the WRONG FOOD
“Crohns, RA, IBD, IBS and a number of other inflammatory and/or autoimmune diseases.”
...and probably ankylosing spondylitis (hoping).
I've heard that.
Or Atkins, or South Beach...
>> the WRONG FOOD
Is crap considered food?
Of course darn near everyone smoked, maybe the nicotine kept everybody slim?
______________
Cigarettes were the number one cause of slimness. Everyone got fat after ciggies were banned from polite society..
That's how body builders get cut.
Nowadays, every one does nothing...hence the blubber butt.
Of course Obama smokes a little crack with his pies...and then he and Reggie get some exercise (if you know what he means).
Hence, Obama got the "slims."
Prednisone alters carbohydrate metabolism as well as increasing appetite. The only way you can avoid gaining weight while you're on steroids is to stop eating junk carbs. Confine your carbohydrate intake to a few green vegetables. Eat protein--fish, poultry, meat. Eat good fats like olive oil, coconut oil, butter from grass-fed beef. No rice, potatoes, sugar, pasta, bread; certainly no sugar ever. You will lose water as well as fat.
And if you can’t construct a proper sentence, you are functionally illiterate.

The children were not smoking!
When it's between two pieces bread, it's called forced feeding:)
But it's not that simple. That's the point.
One of the benefits of 'second hand smoke'? (If not, the kids went outside and did something to get out of the smoke and got some exercise!)
The right kind of carbs are OK. Veggies, sweet potatoes, some regular potatoes, even rice. Avoid the quick sugar rush carbs and you will be OK.
There were lots of white collar dads who sat at a desk all day! Labor saving devices were readily available to women! We sprinkled sugar on our corn flakes, ate white bread, mashed potatoes, white rice, fatty pork chops covered in greasy gravy, fried chicken, butter-drenched vegetables, cake with sugary icing and full-fat ice cream and no one was fat.
Good idea, thanks. I also drink dry red wine about twice per week.
Well, I guess, considering your handle, you want to go with the hypothesis that nicotine keeps you slim. :)
