Donald Trump remains atop the Republican presidential field despite what most agreed was a more subdued performance in Wednesday's GOP debate, according to a new poll.
The celebrity candidate lost his spotlight to Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in the third debate, causing him to drop to second place in the Washington Examiner's post-debate power rankings. Still, a Rasmussen Reports survey of GOP voters taken after the third debate shows Trump continuing to lead his Republican rivals.
Trump earns 26 percent support among GOP voters, followed closely by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 21 percent. Rubio is in a distant third at 10 percent support, showing that Rubio's solid performance hasn't translated into significantly higher numbers, at least not yet.

Honest to God, how can anyone be serious about Carson? I like the guy very much, but come on at this point! He cannot win the presidency.

Cruz still only at 7%. That’s troubling as he was brilliant in the debate. I would have lined it up Trump, Cruz then Rubio a distant third.
Bottom line: It will be Trump for POTUS and either, Carson, Cruz or, Rubio for VP!!! Whatever the final GOP ticket is....Trump & company will slaughter Hilllary Clinton....politically, first at the POTUS debates, and second in the general election....and, the Democrat Party will gt a similar butt whipping, just like the the debate moderators from CNBC did!!!
Cruz as VP, Cruz as SCOTUS, Cruz as AG. You can’t lose in any of those situations.
Another disappointment! Trump still on top! When will it end! When will it end. The pundits have been saying it should end any time.
Actually, we should encourage the pundits to opine because that confirms the opposite is true.
Trump gets back to, and sticks to, his Economic message and he should see a bump up in the polls. He wins very big on this issue.

Cruz has not shown any ability to attract support outside of a narrow, ideological base. And with an electorate clearly looking for a non-establishment candidate, capable of taking on the establishment, this becomes self-reinforcing. Even people who support everything about him, look elsewhere because he hasn’t demonstrated that he can create a broad base of support.
This is why people saying that “Cruz won” the debate were probably incorrect (although we won’t know for certain for a couple of weeks). He didn’t really do anything to change the perception that he can’t attract widespread support. His debate was memorable, and brilliant. But it didn’t (at least, it probably didn’t) give him what he needed, and so he cannot be considered the winner.
The big winner in the debate was probably Trump, since he maintained his position of dominance. I suspect the biggest loser (outside of Kasich and Bush), will be Carson. He has wide, but shallow support, and on a night of memorable performances, his was forgettable. I suspect Cruz and Trump will leech votes from him, as will Rubio, who got another victory in the debate due to the implosion of Bush. I expect him to get a decent sized bump, adding Bush voters, and some Carson voters, as well. Outside of them, it was probably a push for the non-contenders, as well as Fiorina and Cruz.
Rubio is an establishment hack like Bush who does a better job masquerading as a conservative. Rubio even managed to be a darling of many Tea Partyers for a while until he showed his true colors with the gang of eight.
So you're right that he's more dangerous than Bush because anyone with sense can see Bush for what he is, while Rubio disguises himself with some conservative-sounding buzzwords.
