Clint Eastwood's record-breaking film, scoring six Oscar nominations, is galvanizing moviegoers in both red and blue states....
Clint Eastwood's American Sniper is smashing records at the North American box office, where it topped Friday's chart with $30.5 million from 3,555 theaters for a debut in the $75 million-$80 million range over the long Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, well ahead of expectations.
That would mark the largest opening of all time for the month of January, as well as one of the top grosses ever for a non-tentpole, much less an R-rated, modern-day war film.

Orca and her crowd were at the White House for a private showing of “Selma,” last night. When is the White House showing of “American Sniper” scheduled?
I haven’t seen the movie but from what I’ve seen in trailers, Bradley Cooper comes off sounding like a redneck good ole boy (linguistically)- and badly in my opinion. Is the rest of his portrayal like this?
I hope the left keeps flaming race issues because people are sick-to-death of it. When Democraps start harming themselves, I say let ‘em. Now they started in with the Oscars saying the Oscars are racist because Selma wasn’t nominated for 10 billion awards. It was nominated twice but that’s not good enough. so therefore it’s RACIST! LOL! Liberal Hollywood being blasted by liberals! I love it! A black President, a black Attorney general, a black Senior advisor, but the USA is RACIST!
No, go see the movie before you pan it. It is an amazing masterpiece and his acting is extremely well done. His love of country was a breath of fresh air.
Just like Zimbabwe.
What could go wrong?
I haven’t seen any of the film or trailers.
However as to your concern that the character comes across “like a redneck good ole boy and badly in my opinion”...
The bottom line is the film is a smash hit.
Libs heads are exploding.
I’ll believe you but they picked the wrong sound clips for the trailers, then IMO.
Interestingly enough, I heard on the radio a friend of the the character that Cooper portrayed who said he sounded just like him. There are plenty of guys in the service with southern accents; for a while I was pretty good at distinguishing who came from where.
You should add that I said, specifically "sounding like... and badly......
I have no misconceptions that it is probably a very good movie, but I don't like actors who can't pull off accents trying to do so, and that's what the trailers I saw sounded like, frankly.
It isn’t going to hurt the movie.
People want to see it, not trailers.
Most people know other people who have seen it and word of mouth acclaim will trump trailer sound bites.
It’s a triumph.
There’s a stampede to watch it.
Got any other irrelevant “downers” for us??
next will be the posters who haven’t seen a movie since 1977.
Great movie. Saw it yesterday with my boys. I have never been to a movie where the sold out crowd sat through all of the credits and then filed out silently with no talking. It was that powerful.
I was born in Georgia and lived here all my life except when I was with Uncle overseas....I’ve heard accents from here and elsewhere all my life...I’ve got several relatives who are masters at it (the speaking)......what I heard in the clips sounded fake to me. This doesn’t mean I condemn the real sniper or his realism.
Your concerns are not born out in real life reaction to the movie and people telling others it’s a “must see”.
There’s nothing left for me to say about it.
Why are all you people pissed because I thought the trailers I heard sounded fake. I made and make no accusations about the movie’s realism or the real sniper’s ‘realism’...
Somebody says something as an observation and you all are ready to jump all over them. Get a life.
Got to work up that lather of self-pity, and hatred of whites. That demonic hatred is to be ignored unless it gets in your face. My descendants will tell pre-race war tales of being menaced by dangerous, self-indulgent goof balls who had nothing to fill the emptiness of their lives but hatred.
Xlnt Flick. I put it above black hawk down and hurt locker
Bradley cooper and cast xlnt
Great portrayal of his commitment to God duty country. Good sniper stuff including a bad guy
Must see
Odd, because Mills’ own FATHER said that Cooper absolutely captured his son.
I’m not a linguistics expert, but I thought B.Cooper did a fine job portraying Kyle’s grit and challenges. I thought Eastwood balanced the combat and home front contrast realistically. Kyle came across as a quiet, very focused professional, always trying to do right by his country.
