I haven’t seen the movie but from what I’ve seen in trailers, Bradley Cooper comes off sounding like a redneck good ole boy (linguistically)- and badly in my opinion. Is the rest of his portrayal like this?
No, go see the movie before you pan it. It is an amazing masterpiece and his acting is extremely well done. His love of country was a breath of fresh air.
I haven’t seen any of the film or trailers.
However as to your concern that the character comes across “like a redneck good ole boy and badly in my opinion”...
The bottom line is the film is a smash hit.
Libs heads are exploding.
Interestingly enough, I heard on the radio a friend of the the character that Cooper portrayed who said he sounded just like him. There are plenty of guys in the service with southern accents; for a while I was pretty good at distinguishing who came from where.
Odd, because Mills’ own FATHER said that Cooper absolutely captured his son.
I’m not a linguistics expert, but I thought B.Cooper did a fine job portraying Kyle’s grit and challenges. I thought Eastwood balanced the combat and home front contrast realistically. Kyle came across as a quiet, very focused professional, always trying to do right by his country.
What do you have against rednecks?
Rednecks just mean someone who is country and works outside for a living. A simple life but honest. These kind of good ole-boys is what we need more of. NOT the kind that are coming out of Harvard like b.h.o. and other brainwashed elite. Country folks and blue collar workers (and cowboys) are the meat and potatoes of this country and received a bad rap these last few decades.
Chris Kyle was not a redneck anyway nor portrayed as one in the movie. He was a TEXAN, a cowboy with the same qualities, in my opinion, as a true TEXAN.
I think the actor accurately shows Chris Kyle to be a strong, good, kind, and noble man. One that would certainly have my heart and admiration. Being country, or cowboy, or suburban blue collar ‘regular folks’ needs to be recognized for the good qualities they truly represent.
I saw the movie yesterday and didn’t come away with that impression at all. I found him more a gentleman. Of course two random people could watch the same movie and come out with different opinions. However, for this movie, try and trust me and go see the movie. I THINK you will see your immediate impression may have been wrong.
You sound like a Class A bigot, putting down Americans with a different accent than your own. There are hundreds of thousands of Southerners and Texans who have defended your freedom. Try to focus on that.
Interesting observation without actually observing.
I found that impression to be wrong after actually observing it.
You need to do some research on Chris Kyle like Cooper did.
I thought he did a great job overall.
All he ever wanted to do was to be a cowboy. Go see the movie and make up your own mind.
