Yes, flying can get more uncivilized.

A United Airlines flight departing SFO earlier this week, bound for London, reportedly forgot to pack an important item for the non-stop 10-hour trip across the ocean: toilet paper.

So along with a safety demonstration, the airline crew had to instruct passengers to dig around their bags and purses for some alternative wiping machinery -- a napkin, a tissue ...

The crew was kind enough to offer cocktail napkins as an alternative.

Now might be a good time to remind travelers that United Airlines was recently ranked the worst airline in the country.

I attended an ASME sponsored talk about 10 years ago at Princeton that featured an SR-71 pilot (he was selling his latest book).

The dicussion was one of the best lectures I ever attended for the technical aspects of an amazing aircraft.

Notable for this thread, he stated that their usual preflight diet was a high protein... steak and eggs, as I recall. Said it bound them up pretty good for long missions to the other side of the globe.

In flight they had astronaut type food... and they could heat it by placing it in under the windscreen the front cockpit. At the speed at which they were travelling (Mach 3) the friction energy was enough to heat the windscreen and radiate heat to warm the food packets.

BTW:The nomadic tribes, for lack of effective sanitary products swear by camel urine as hair shampoo and tooth cleanser among a multitude of different uses. Nothing like camel urine for that ultimate clean and fresh feeling.

People might not be aware of the Sheryl Crow controversy who claimed to uproarious public response that out of concern for forest products using one toilet paper square awas enough for her to feel properly cleansed at whatever she was doing and using more than one was wasteful.
