Ok you can flame me but this idea really comes from my lovely wife.
Biden resigns immediately
Harris becomes VP and appoints Gaven Newsom to be her new VP.
This nullifies the recall and secures his female Lt Gov as California new leader.
Dems guarantee continued power in Kalifornia
The new regime gets the usual grace period of celebration, love and kisses.
Minor nitpick. President does not appoint the VP replacement directly. The candidate for VP is nominated and the Senate has to approve. Since the VP slot is empty, the 50/50 Senate split becomes problematic for the Dems to push through the nomination.
I would think that their golden boy would be Butt-i-jig (or what ever his name is).
And that means the Senate would be at a 50-50 deadlock, theoretically.
With Harris as VP, Dems lose their Senate Majority.
If Biden resigns, the Democrats lose their majority in the Senate. Republicans could continue to deny them a majority by refusing to confirm any VP other than a Republican or a Senator from Georgia (who Kemp could replace with a Republican).
winner winner
Hillary can arrange that.
Constitution? The same Constitution that prevents Harris from EVER becoming President because she’s NOT a Natural Born Citizen? THAT Constitution?
Could happen. Since the dems don’t give one twit about the American people or the good of the country.
You are correct. But they only need to flip a single Vichy Republican like Romney.
> Read the Constitution - both can’t be from same state.
Maybe... but this is IMPORTANT
> Republicans could continue to deny them a majority by refusing to confirm any VP... <
Very true. And that would be the smart play.
But Republicans are not smart. The Senate almost always confirms presidential nominees, under the theory that the president should have the right to choose who he wants to work with.
So I’ll betcha that at least one GOP senator would fold, and respect that “tradition”.
The new PORTUS nominates a VP, and both Houses must pass via simple majority.
25nd Amendment, Section 2.
House and senate need to confirm Vp but that is a formality
You need a good flaming.
Only if a new veep is not installed by the time Harris gets removed. Think Gerald Ford.
You're absolutely right. And the Dems lose their ability to break ties in their favor the second Kamala becomes President. The Senate is 50-50 at that point, and I suspect the GOP may not confirm a new VP as long as that tie exists.
Throws an unanticipated monkey wrench into the Dems' plan to have Biden resign partway through his term because that means they'd lose Senate control.
No way dR jill lets this happen.
And the second Harris becomes VP, the Dems lose her tiebreaker and the Dems can no longer ram things through the Senate party-line.
