Biden steps down, Harris steps in, Newsom steps down and becomes VP

Ok you can flame me but this idea really comes from my lovely wife.

Biden resigns immediately

Harris becomes VP and appoints Gaven Newsom to be her new VP.

This nullifies the recall and secures his female Lt Gov as California new leader.

Dems guarantee continued power in Kalifornia

The new regime gets the usual grace period of celebration, love and kisses.

The Constitution only says that presidential electors can't vote for both a President and VP from the same state as themselves. That is, if Commie-la & Newsome tried to run as a ticket in 2024, they would forfeit California's electoral votes.

That doesn't have anything to do with an appointed VP, though.

Read the Constitution - both can’t be from same state.

Actually, they can be from the same state. The restriction is that in the Electoral College, a state cannot vote for someone from their own state for both President and VP. So in an election, if both Harris and Newsome ran on the same ticket, the electors from California could vote for Harris or Newsome, but not for both. With a state with a large number of electors like California, that could result in the President and VP being from different parties. But in the case of an appointment, there is no Constitutional restriction.

They can be from the same state since no election is involved. The Constitution says that electoral college electors cannot vote for two candidates that are both from their state. So, even if both candidates were from the same state, only the electoral votes from that particular state would be involved.

Some Democrats, tried to block Gerald Ford’s appointment as Vice President so that in the absence of a Vice President, Carl Albert, the Speaker of the House, would have been first in line for the Presidential succession. Then when Nixon left office, Carl Albert would have become President automatically.

I would add that Collins choice would be between either being a VP for 3 years or a Senator for another 5. Basically, does she prefer being a historical footnote or having some actual power. I could see her going either way.

I was aware of that. But the majority of dems at the time were not willing to try to overturn an election that Nixon had won by 49 states.

You arae correct, there must be a majority of senators to confirm. If the GOP closes ranks and refuse to confirm a VP, then the destruction of our country will not go forward. But, alas, Romney, Lindsey, Murkowski, et al, will graciously reach across the aisle and confirm Harris’ appointee, and again the feckless reckless GOP betrays us.

Gerald Ford was never a United States Senator, he was House Minority Leader.

They would only forfeit the electoral votes of California for one of the two offices. Therefore, the VP could be from another party.

That’s Kabuki theater, they KNEW they were enabling the reconciliation by voting for the Trojan horse “bipartisan” bill.

Never going to happen. The only way Biden leaves the WH early is toes up.

That’s probably being arranged.

It would be good for the optics and garnering sympathy, to make a martyr out of him.
