Volume of world's oldest water estimated

The world's oldest water, which is locked deep within the Earth's crust, is present at a far greater volume than was thought, scientists report.

The liquid, some of which is billions of years old, is found many kilometres beneath the ground.

Researchers estimate there is about 11m cubic kilometres (2.5m cu miles) of it - more water than all the world's rivers, swamps and lakes put together.

The study was presented at the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting.

It has also been published in the journal Nature.

The team found that the water was reacting with the rock to release hydrogen: a potential food source.

It means that great swathes of the deep crust could be harbouring life.

No. Allegory for what?

I think it is God's way of telling low-tech people about massive geologic change, asking them to accept the details on faith.

The fact that science keeps discovering things which confirm what people of faith already know-- such as the existence of vast stores of water deep in the earth-- should not be a surprise.

"Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And He chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful."

--Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth, 1:26-27

“No. Allegory for what?”

Water being a cleansing mechanism.

“The fact that science keeps discovering things which confirm what people of faith already know—”

People of faith do not know, they believe...thus faith. We were not there.

The final quote seems to be saying to remain humble, which is fine. I certainly might be missing the point though.

:)

"Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, [a]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

Hebrews 11:1 (Amplified Version)Bold added (as in my prior posts)

Yeah, we know.

Why provide an allegory when a simple provable statement of fact ("Water is a cleansing mechanism") will do just as well? The Bible is full of those.

That “Great Flood” was probably the result of an impact from an object from outer space, or a great Tsunami from an Earthquake. Those would be the most likely explanation for such a flood, assuming that it happened. I believe there is physical evidence that it did.

The oceans as we know them are not tens of millions or hundreds of millions years old, as the accepted view assumes. In a sequel to Worlds in Collision, dealing with the catastrophic events preceding the second millennium before the present era, I shall discuss the origin of the oceans and shall try to show that their expanse grew greatly after the event known as the Universal Deluge, when cosmic water descended on Earth following the disruption of Saturn...

You may be exactly right as to the mechanism God used to trigger it.

I have other meteorite-related beliefs as to the physical means God used to do other things in the history of creation.

I wonder whether this thread has been sufficiently jacked :)

We should start a new ping list for Threadjackers. I won’t be pingmaster though, even though I flatter myself by regarding myself as the arch-threadjacker. ;’)

Yeah, put together a list, when you ping us all, we’ll come in and ‘raid’ the thread. We’ll repeatedly post silly graphics, and nonsensical comments in annoying fonts & colors. (sort of like now, but it’ll be coordinated lol)

They’ll never know what hit them.

Good idea. Spent some time today tracking down this old favorite, the graphic link was broken, so I tracked down *that*, I'm going to take a nap.

It's the Obamacare, stupid!

One-half gallon of oil in the form of pesticides per bushel of corn would cost $2 to $3 per bushel. If this were true -- and it clearly isn't -- it should be enough to illustrate to literally anyone that the price of petroleum is quite literally the ONLY thing driving corn prices. And this idiotic piece of agitprop -- from a hydrogen "energy" advocacy site -- also shows the guy in the encounter suit spraying chemical fertilizer, a sight that I've never been privileged to see, what with me *growing up on a farm*.
