Conservative Republicans support for Sen. Ted Cruz indicates that the conservative movement is brain dead. If Cruz is the best candidate they can find, then conservatives obviously have nothing to offer. Cruz may be the only Republican presidential aspirant who is dumber than Hillary Clinton.

They take our money and give us nothing of value. We always a use the Democrats of loving poor people so much that they try to make everyone poor and I argue that the Republicans do the same with irate patriots. It says that it wants to fix things but actually makes things worse in order to create more mad as hell patriots. The only problem now is that Republicans have been playing the trick too long and the jig is up.

I think many of us have woken up to the fact that we were being played by the Republican face of the Uni-Party.

Since the Chicago thug attack Cruz has been more than happy to blame the violent protesters’ on Trump. It was not a one-time gaff. Cruz is beginning to lose any credibility as an honest patriot.

You are correct. It was a sleazy political stunt and I do understand the desperation which motivated it.

I lost faith in him prior to that for two other reasons.

He claimed that the Natural Born Citizen issue is “settled law” and he knows very well that it isn’t. Should a court ever take it up, he could very well be proven correct - that he is eligible but it is not settled law by any means.

He would find this out should he be on the ticket when the Democrats would, in Nancy Grace’s words, UNLEASH the Lawyers.

Then he piled on to the CNN lie that David Duke endorsed Trump, he did nothing of the sort. And Trump had repeatedly denounced Duke and the KKK. Cruz acted as though Donald was wearing white sheets himself.

Taking the Democratmedia as gospel cost him the hero status I had placed him in.

the candidate and the principles of conservatism are two separate issues that should not be conflated

No, I’m calling it LAUDABLE.

In any case it had NOTHING to do with the attacks on Trump’s rallies. They would occur should the disrupters be escorted out on a cloud.

I don't think it was motivated by desperation, I think he just misread the attitude of the conservative block.

He claimed that the Natural Born Citizen issue is “settled law” and he knows very well that it isn’t. Should a court ever take it up, he could very well be proven correct - that he is eligible but it is not settled law by any means.

I think Article II is a dead issue. At this point, it is virtually impossible to repair the damage that the legal system has done to it, so we might as well ignore it at this point.

Then he piled on to the CNN lie that David Duke endorsed Trump, he did nothing of the sort. And Trump had repeatedly denounced Duke and the KKK. Cruz acted as though Donald was wearing white sheets himself.

I don't remember anything about Cruz trying to tar Trump with David Duke, though I remember a lot of media people trying to do it.

I actually don't think that issue has hurt Trump at all. He still manages a higher than normal percentage of support among blacks. Certainly more so than any other candidate.

Not looking to bicker, D.L.

I came into this election as a serious Cruz supporter.

For months I saw Trump moving mountains, not always the mountains I would have asked to have moved, but once the establishment rose up against him, I figured he deserved my backing if only to spit in establishment faces.

Lately Trump has been showing his weaknesses, his unwillingness to be prepared, for traps, trick questions, for enemies on every side.

But-—this is to answer your question, sorry it took me so long to get to it-—Cruz has all but driven me off with his whining, his playing the victim, his willingness to join with losers from Beck to Yebbie to Linda Graham...I see him even as playing on Trump’s insult to Mrs. Cruz, bleating and beating his breast just like a lefty would.

There’s a lot of campaigning left. But I’ll have a hell of a time voting for a victim.

I wasn't happy about Jeb endorsing him, but then I remembered what happened in 1980 with Reagan and George HW Bush. I figured the Bush dynasty is just attempting to remain relevant, same as HW did in 1980.

As for Beck, yeah, he's gone a little Cuckoo, but still has a large following. He's sort of like Ted Cruz's version of Sarah Palin.

I don't fault anyone for voting for Trump or Cruz. I see things I like about both candidates, but I trust Cruz more when it comes to judicial appointments.

But I will support Trump if he is the nominee.

I am no longer a conservative.

Others have decided to define my beliefs and when I did not meet their definition they revoked my conservative card.

Funny, I feel liberated that I no longer have to worry about how a real true blue conservative should think or feel. I can now look at a candidate and decide if they best represent my beliefs (knowing none are going to match perfectly).

Thank you CONSERVATIVES for making my life easier.

...and oh BTW, the flip side of individual freedom from an unconstitutional federal government is a constitutional government that upholds its mandate to protect the United States from invasion.

And what position does he hold that is not conservative?

You won't get an intelligent answer.

central_va, you’re like Lucy tempting me, like Charlie Brown, to run and kick the football you’ve set up. The difference is I know you will pull the football away at the end.

I’ll just say this to you - you cannot explain how tariffs address the core issues of why businesses are fleeing this country and the resulting slow growth of GDP.

Project much Father of Five? (Are you sure they are all yours?)

If we follow the Constitution, we will be ok.

Cruz will follow the Constitution. Trump will follow his ego and make a deal with anybody.

It is that simple.

I’m inclined to agree with the conclusion. I think the conservative movement in the USA hasn’t moved since the late 1990s. After impeachment of Clinton didn’t work out. the GOPers in Congress decided to just enable the white liberal elite. This was punctuated in 2002 and came to a boil by 2006, when they got their heads handed to them and shown the door of Congress.

That made Obamacare possible.

While conservative voters gave them a chance in 2010 and 2014, we found out it was for nothing. They were in the business of talk, not results.

Conservatives are still beleivers, though they have no vessel for their values and policies. It’s going to be a long time before the ship docks again - I’m thinking the 2060s or 2070s. Between now and then, expect liberal ascension and dominance, and take whatever conservative victories we can get.

“And what position does he hold that is not conservative?”

Continuing in an election that he CANNOT win just to keep the MAJORITY of GOP voters from getting the candidate they are voting for!
