HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, is praising the task force put together by Democratic President-elect Joe Biden, which President Trump disputes. Pennsylvania is currently seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases with state health officials reporting a record daily increase of 4,361 new cases Tuesday. Gov. Wolf thanked Biden for making fighting the pandemic a priority and on the introduction of Biden’s task force which includes public health experts with ties to the Commonwealth.

Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf ordered National Guardsmen to Philadelphia on Tuesday, following a night of riots that left 30 police officers injured and various businesses vandalized. The riots began after police shot and killed 27-year-old Walter Wallace Jr., an African American man, who officers said approached them with a knife. Video of the incident showed Wallace walking towards officers with his mother attempting to hold him back, and when the camera points away police fire several shots.

Tom Wolf’s administration’s request for a stay on a federal court decision that found some of the governor’s COVID-19 pandemic restrictions to be unconstitutional. The Wolf Administration sought the stay while appealing U.S. Western District Judge William Stickman IV’s order that was issued last week that ruled the governor’s closure of nonessential business, a stay-at-home order and an order to limit gathering sizes were unconstitutional.
