As Pennsylvania continues to report new daily coronavirus case counts in record numbers, the state’s Department of Health Secretary, Dr. Rachel Levine, said there are currently no plans to return to Gov. Tom Wolf’s red-yellow-green mitigation phases. Speaking during a news conference Wednesday regarding the state’s plan to eventually roll out a COVID-19 vaccine once one is approved and available, Levine responded to a query about the phases that may or may not have been prompted by a recent barrage of social media posts that claim Wolf is planning to shut down the state again following the election, despite there...

The governor of Pennsylvania—shaping up to be the key swing state in the 2020 presidential election—has said local officials will not be intimidated after President Donald Trump said all eyes would be on the state come Tuesday. Both Trump and challenger Joe Biden have made their final push in Pennsylvania, hoping to do enough to secure its 20 electoral votes. Both candidates' path to the White House will likely run through the Keystone State.

Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf is telling voters in his state it may take 'even a few days' to count their votes in a new public service-style ad – as the looming legal battle over the count there takes on a new PR dimension. 'These are unprecedented times. Because of the coronavirus, there were millions of votes cast by mail so it may take longer than usual to count every vote,' he says in a new ad for the nonpartisan group, The Voter Project.

An influx of millions of mail-in ballots across Pennsylvania means that the state will probably not know the results of the presidential race on Election Night, Gov. Tom Wolf said Thursday as he urged patience while results are certified. The warning came as the governor and Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar revealed some 2.1 million mail-in ballots have been returned already, with the total expected to rise to around 3 million by the time the Nov. 3 election happens. “The fact is, counting the surge in mail in ballots is gonna take, we’re sure, more time than it used to,”...

Pennsylvania’s Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf on Tuesday called for marijuana use to be legalized, which he said could help shore up the state’s economy. Wolf said on Twitter that he would be renewing calls on the state legislature to legalize adult-use to provide a new revenue stream as the state battles a multibillion-dollar coronavirus-related budget deficit. During a press conference on Tuesday, Wolf acknowledged that so far there has been no movement among Pennsylvania lawmakers to advance corresponding legislation.

Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf and Health Department Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine have changed their order related to gathering limitations in the state. Originally, indoor events were restricted to just 25 people, while outdoor events could have up to 250. Now, however, the maximum capacity will be determined based on a venue’s maximum occupancy. It breaks down like this: Maximum Occupancy - Allowable Indoor Rate 0-2,000 people - 20% of Maximum Occupancy 2,001 - 10,000 people - 15% of Maximum Occupancy Over 10,000 people - 10% of Maximum Occupancy up to 3,750 people Maximum Occupancy - Allowable Outdoor Rate 0-2,000 people...

Gov. Tom Wolf issued a statement Friday calling President Donald J. Trump’s continued scheduling of large campaign rallies in Pennsylvania dangerous, manipulative and wrong, and urged all attendees “to think of the health and safety of their families and their communities before attending... any rally put on by the Trump campaign.” If they do persist in going, Wolf said, their duty to their families and friends includes wearing a mask and maintaining proper social distancing for the duration of the events. Wolf’s comments come as the president is making huge personal investments in trying to hold Pennsylvania and it’s 20...

Today, Governor Tom Wolf thanked House Democrats for upholding COVID-19 mitigation measures that protect the health and safety of Pennsylvanians. The governor released the following statement: “I am thankful to the House Democrats for continuing to stand with me and showing a commitment to working collaboratively to protect the people of Pennsylvania during this ongoing public health crisis. Pennsylvanians should be thankful as well. “Throughout this pandemic, my administration has maintained that school districts should have local control on decisions over school sports and extra-curricular activities and has no intention of changing course on this recommendation. A federal judge on Tuesday denied Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration’s request for a stay on a federal court decision that found some of the governor’s COVID-19 pandemic restrictions to be unconstitutional. The Wolf Administration sought the stay while appealing U.S. Western District Judge William Stickman IV’s order that was issued last week that ruled the governor’s closure of nonessential business, a stay-at-home order and an order to limit gathering sizes were unconstitutional. In denying the stay, Stickman said, “the public interest would be ill served if the court would grant the stay allowing the unconstitutional measures to remain in place.”...

Gov. Tom Wolf, as promised, vetoed a bipartisan-backed bill on Monday that would have given local officials’ authority this year to decide whether to hold K-12 sports and activities and set crowd limits at events. This action shows his determination to urge Pennsylvanians to adhere to his 25-person limit for indoor events and 250 for outdoor contests to control the spread of COVID-19, even though a federal judge has declared those limits along with other pandemic-related restrictions the governor ordered as unconstitutional. The Wolf Administration has requested a stay on that order while appealing U.S. Western District Court Judge William...

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania -- Gov. Tom Wolf will go through with a veto of a bill that would give school districts the sole ability to make decisions on sports, including whether and how many spectators to allow, he said Monday. The Wolf administration's gathering limits of 25 people indoors and 250 people outdoors apply to youth sports, but legislation that cleared the state House and Senate would empower schools to make their own rules about the number of spectators permitted at games. Some families have chafed at the statewide limits, saying attendance could safely be expanded while still allowing for adequate...

‘The liberties protected by the Constitution are not fair-weather freedoms—in place when times are good but able to be cast aside in times of trouble.” So federal judge William Stickman IV wrote Monday in an instructive ruling that overturned Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s use of emergency power. The decision comes nearly six months after Mr. Wolf invoked police powers to impose a strict lockdown as his strategy against Covid-19. Mr. Wolf argued the case is moot since he has relaxed his orders, but Judge Stickman noted that Mr. Wolf continues to assert that he can reinstate restrictions, as other governors...
