7.9 on the Richter scale; village destroyed. An Earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale rocked the Aleutian Islands off of Alaska at 11:28 on Thursday morning according to the World Geologial Association. The earthquake was centered just off of the Rat Islands, a part of the Aleutian Archipeligo chain that extends into the Pacific Ocean off of the southern part of Alaska toward Asia.
