Prince Philip was treated for a blocked coronary artery and a successful "invasive procedure of coronary stenting" was performed. The duke, aged 90, had been taken from Sandringham to the cardiothoracic unit at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire. The Royal Family had been gathering at Sandringham, a traditional royal retreat in Norfolk, for Christmas. The palace said that following tests the duke was was found to have a blocked coronary artery which had caused his chest pains. This was treated successfully by the minimally invasive procedure of coronary stenting.

I just got word that fellow FReeper and co-worker CougarGA7 had a heart attack over the weekend. I've spoken to his wife and he is in the hospital and has had a stent installed, and the prognosis looks good for recovery. Keeping him in your thoughts is appreciated. Those who are inclined to, a prayer would be nice. Those who know him are welcome to post such friendly abuse as is merited.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, a moderate conservative and often decisive vote, was hospitalized for a stent procedure after experiencing mild chest pains, a court spokeswoman said on Tuesday. Spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said Kennedy, 70, underwent "a routine procedure" at Washington Hospital Center on September 2. Thanks, Quix. I am feeling better after they put in the stent but my chest feels heavy and there's fluid accumulating in there that dialysis takes out. Please pray that stops and that I can get my strength back. I can't do much right now. I'm operating on 40% of my heart.
