January 2022 marks the 18th Annual National Stalking Awareness Month. We have this awareness month due to one of the authors of this opinion piece, Debbie Riddle. Debbie’s youngest sister, Peggy Klinke, was brutally murdered by her ex-boyfriend/stalker on January 18, 2003. Peggy’s stalker killed himself immediately afterward. Former Florida data scientist Rebekah Jones was arrested on a charge that she hacked into the state’s emergency response system — and later learned she tested positive for COVID-19. Jones — who said she was fired from the state’s Department of Health in May for refusing to alter coronavirus data — turned herself in late Sunday, the Tampa Bay Times reported. Her attorney, Steve Dobson, said Jones, 31, was tested for COVID-19 after being booked into the Leon County Detention Facility, and learned she was positive on Monday.

A Hawaii man is accused of conducting an elaborate cyberstalking campaign against a Utah woman and her father by sending unwanted repairmen, food deliveries and other visitors to their home. An Arizona woman who allegedly sent 159,000 text messages to a man and broke into his home after they went on a single date believes a jury will find her innocent. Jacqueline Ades was found mentally incompetent to stand trial in March. But she wants a jury to hear her case, believing they will even order her to marry the man.
