The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has terminated the SMILE Community Action Agency's Head Start grant. “We’re in the appeal process,” said Chris Williams, director of the agency. “and we’ll inform you more as information becomes available.” SMILE provides Head Start services, which includes preschool classes for three and four-year-olds, to nearly 1,500 families in Lafayette, St. Martin and Iberia parishes, according to its website.
