WASHINGTON — Mayor Giuliani's past support for gay rights may put him at odds with social conservatives, but it is in tune with one small-yet-vocal constituency: the Log Cabin Republicans — a gay GOP group with a history of complicating the nomination paths for the party's presidential contenders. The Log Cabin group claims a membership of about 20,000 gay and lesbian Republicans nationwide and has fought against a federal amendment banning same-sex marriage. Its members have long supported Mr. Giuliani, who as mayor of New York signed a landmark domestic partnership bill that guaranteed the same benefits to gay and...

Rudy Memo: Strong And Growing Ex-NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani's directror of strategy sent top supporters a memo 3/22 crowing about a "notable" growth in support for Giuliani since he declared on 2/5. Before February, 5th, we were leading in major media polls by an average of 5-points. Since February, 5th our lead has grown to an average of nearly 20-points. Other key bullet points: Mayor Giuliani has a wider lead among social conservatives than he does among Republicans in general. Social conservatives already know who Rudy Giuliani is. In fact, more than 70% say they know “some or a lot”...

(AP) - Demographics and details from AP-Ipsos polling on the 2008 presidential race. The poll was conducted by Ipsos, an international polling firm: OVERALL: The most important qualities looked for in a presidential candidate are honesty and integrity; these were named by more than half of those in the AP-Ipsos poll. The leading Democratic candidate, according to Democrats and those who lean Democratic, is Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York at 38 percent followed by Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois at 21 percent, former Vice President Al Gore at 14 percent and former Sen. John Edwards at 10 percent....

David Scull/The New York Times Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, left, at a 1995 news conference with Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, and James S. Brady, who was shot in the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. As mayor of New York City, Rudolph W. Giuliani became the favorite Republican of gun control advocates. He spoke in favor of a licensing system for gun owners that would require trigger locks and firearms training, and he lobbied Congress to outlaw most military-style assault weapons. He was the only Republican mayor to join a lawsuit by dozens of cities...

Tonight on Hannity's radio show he gave an entire hour to Rudy Giuliani. This is at least the third time in recent weeks that he has pandered to this pro-abortion, pro-illegal alien, gun-grabbing liberal. In all of these segments on radio and TV, Hannity has never questioned Rudy's pathetic explanations for his liberalism. Hannity claims to be a conservative, but gets absolutely giddy over Rudy. I am beginning to wonder if Hannity's conservativism was just an act all along. Now and then Hannity will have short segments with Newt, but he has been doing that for years (and Newt is...

Given the recent news that Rudolph Giuliani's law firm / lobbying shop, Bracewell-Giuliani works for the Hugo Chavez-owned CITGO oil company, I'm curious as to whether Bracewell may have violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938.The Act makes it a felony for an American citizen to do any of the following on behalf of a foreign government, without registering with the criminal division of the Justice Department: Engage in political activitiesAct in a public relations capacity for a foreign principalSolicit or dispense any thing of value within the United States for a foreign principalRepresent the interests of a foreign...

Giuliani and the pro-life vote By John Jakubczyk There are those pundits and writers who are making the effort to build up Rudy Giuliani in an effort to force him onto conservatives by claiming that he is the only one who can defeat Hillary Clinton. These arguments ask pro-lifers to put aside their deeply held beliefs that only a candidate who hold life sacred can be considered qualified for public office. Claiming that Giuliani has the credentials to fight the war on terror, these apologists for the former New York mayor claim that if he agrees to appoint conservative judges,...

In the race to win the Republican Presidential nomination, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s (R) now has his biggest lead of the season—21 percentage points. Giuliani now attracts support from 37% of those likely to vote in a Republican Primary, up from 34% a week ago. While Giuliani gained three points, Arizona Senator John McCain lost three points and now is supported by just 16% of those surveyed. That is the lowest level of support measured so far who not long ago was presumed to be the frontrunner for the nomination. Rasmussen Reports releases updated polling data...

Everyone needs to see the video clip of Giuliani that Brit Hume aired today. Go to http://www.foxnews.com/specialreport/ and scroll down to Race for 08 and click on the picture of Rudy to pull up the video player. Then you'll have to click on the video called Rallying for Rudy. It starts with Vitter endorsing him but keep watching for Rudy. Asked if he would veto any bill impinging the 2nd amendment - he refused to say without first seeing the legislation. Then the money quote... "THERE'S A RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. THAT IS A PERSONAL RIGHT. THERE CAN BE REASONABLE...

Giuliani is the preferred candidate for 34 percent of likely Republican voters, according to the poll. Giuliani has a double-digit lead over his nearest rival, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who is the choice candidate for 18 percent of potential Republican voters. Conservative endorsements In a move to attract conservatives skeptical of his position on social issues such as gun control, abortion rights and same-sex civil unions, Giuliani's campaign Monday announced endorsements from Sen. David Vitter, R-Louisiana, and former Solicitor General Ted Olson. "Obviously, I disagree with Rudy on some significant social issues, and these are very important to me...

Febuary 2007 – Popular Ex-Mayor of New York, pro-choice Republican Rudy Giuliani, announced the creation of his 2008 Exploratory Committee. This is wonderful news for all Americans, especially GOP moderate Republicans who are counting on someone like Mr. Giuliani to help bring our Grand Old Party back to its roots – to once again be the Party of individual rights that advocates that the government that governs least is the government that governs best. He has been a supporter of Republicans for Choice since its earliest days. ~snip~

When Rudy Giuliani took the stage last Friday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., he did so to an overflowing crowd of mainly young, socially conservative activists. But, while his nearly hour-long speech touched on a host of conservative themes -- including welfare, taxes and, of course, the war on terror -- one set of issues was conspicuously absent: social issues, most notably abortion. The CPAC omission highlights a strategy for addressing the concerns of social conservatives that has emerged in the opening stages of Giuliani's campaign: He's keeping his attention, and theirs, focused squarely on...

A Catholic newspaper is telling readers that Catholics shouldn't support White House hopeful Rudy Giuliani because of his support for allowing women access to abortions. The National Catholic Register's editorial urges anti-abortion voters to choose another candidate other than Giuliani. "A Republican party led by a pro-abortion politician would become a pro-abortion party," according to the editorial that appears on the Web site and is set to appear next week in the newspaper's print edition. Editors say "they hope that pro-lifers will 'be reasonable,' not let the perfect be the enemy of the good, and go along quietly," but "we won't."...

It seems clear Rudy Giuliani is going to run for president. What isn't clear is whether he has any chance of winning the Republican nomination. Some, like RCP's own Ryan Sager, have been pointing to early horserace polls and other anecdotal evidence, assiduously trying to deconstruct the conventional wisdom that says Giuliani's positions on social issues will doom him with conservative base voters. That debate, however, isn't likely to be settled any time soon, and the truth of the matter is that it's Giuliani's position on other issues that may end up disqualifying him with many Republicans. Set aside for...

March 07, 2007 Giuliani Solidifies Lead in Republican Nomination Poll Clinton still leads among Democrats by Jeffrey M. Jones Page: 1, 2 Next GALLUP NEWS SERVICEPRINCETON, NJ -- Rudy Giuliani is cementing himself as the early front-runner for the 2008 Republican nomination, while Hillary Rodham Clinton maintains that status among Democrats. This is according to the latest USA Today/Gallup presidential nomination preference poll of rank-and-file Republicans and Democrats. Giuliani's emergence is notable because the early Republican front-runner has won that party's nomination in each election since 1972. On the other hand, it has been rare for the...

Giuliani A new poll shows that Rudy Giuliani has pulled into the frontrunner position for the Republican nomination for President. Thus, it is worth looking at his fiscal performance as New York City Mayor (1994 through 2001).A good source of data are the Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports issued by the city’s comptroller. See the CAFR for fiscal 2002, which contains 10 years of historical data. Total NYC general fund expenditures.1994: $31.3 billion2001: $40.2 billionrepresenting a 3.6 percent average growth rate.NYC Outstanding General Obligation Bonds.1994: $22.9 billion2001: $26.8 billionrepresenting a 2.3 percent average growth rate. The data suggest that Giuliani...

Rudy Giuliani's son seems to think his dad would make a better President than he did a father. "I got my values from my mother," 21-year-old Andrew Giuliani told ABC in an interview quoted on "Good Morning America" yesterday, the same day the Daily News spotlighted the rift between the former mayor and his only son. "She's a strong influence in my life," Andrew Giuliani said of his mother, Donna Hanover, seemingly drawing a contrast between her and Rudy Giuliani. "She's a strong woman." Andrew's outspoken comments came after more than a year of frosty relations between the Duke University...

Today I have seen the future and that future is President Rudy. It's not that I'm voting for Rudy, but the vacuum to be filled has been filled. Consider this: Rudy Giuliani and Tony Snow are the only guys who have had to have fire marshals bar people from entering due to overcapacity in a very big room. In the green room, Giuliani's speech was the only one to cause everyone to sit down, shut up and watch. More and more, the conservatives at CPAC are realigning. You have the Brownback folks, the Mitt folks, and the people who are...
