I received a graphic from CentCom to put on my blog, Marathon Pundit. An army specialist sent it to me for my blog. I don't know how to use it as a button to put in on my blog. Also, a blog serving as a clearinghouse of sorts for Illinois bloggers is looking for an RSS feed to put on their blog? Any FReepers know how to do this? I'm using Blogger.com

If you know all about RSS and Atom, this will be a waste of your time, but if you never heard of these site feed protocols, this article may be of interest, because it will make your web surfing much faster, more efficient – and almost professional. Many web sites and web logs automatically generate a file whenever they are updated. That is, whenever a new report, headline or article is posted, a special file is exported. In doing so, these sites follow either an RSS or an Atom protocol – both of which usually can be read by certain...

A well-known Microsoft Corp. Web logger Tuesday downplayed the proposed use of a new name for RSS (Really Simple Syndication) in the next version of Internet Explorer (IE) following several days of intense discussion about the notion of rebranding RSS in the Web log community. In an interview Wednesday, Robert Scoble, a Microsoft technical evangelist and writer of a popular Web log, or blog, about the software giant, said the company had not made a final decision as to whether it would rename RSS “Web feeds” in the final version of IE 7 the way it has in the beta...

A Microsoft Network (MSN) executive is defending Microsoft’s rebranding of RSS (Really Simple Syndication) into “Web feeds” after a flurry of Microsoft bloggers accused the software giant of trying to recast the Web-site syndication technology in its own image. In a recent post on his Web log “Torres Talking,” Mike Torres, MSN Spaces lead program manager, made a clear distinction between the branding of the RSS technology and the underlying technology itself. He also said that Microsoft is adding its own functionality to RSS in the version the company is implementing in Internet Explorer (IE) 7. Because of this, its...

Google Inc. plans to enhance its Google News article search service on Tuesday by adding content syndication, according to executives from the Mountain View, California, company. The new feature will allow Google News users to set up RSS (Really Simple Syndication) or Atom content syndication feeds for specific Google News sections, such as entertainment, business or world news, and for specific terms users search for on Google News, such as “George Bush,” “diabetes” or “space shuttle.” Users will also be able to set up RSS or Atom feeds for customized sections they create on Google News. “This is another way...

I'm looking around for some podcasts worth listening to, and I figured my fellow freepers would have some insight. I'm especially intersted in political, technological and theological topics. Maybe this thread could serve as a central compendium of "Free Republic Approved" podcasts?

Kochi (AsiaNews) – A gaggle of Hindu fundamentalists assaulted Christians who were watching a screening of The Passion of the Christ inside the Kanai Church, the oldest church in the state of Kerala (south-western India). One Christian was seriously wounded and scores of others were beaten and injured, including women and children. The incident occurred on Easter Eve in Chalakud Taluna when 25 militants from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)—the paramilitary wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—disrupted the viewing of Mel Gibson’s movie and started attacking the spectators, one of whom George Kutty, was seriously hurt. Kanai Church members...

In the world of news sources, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find those that remain objective. Of course their are sources such as The Christian Science Monitor and ITN, but finding a good selection really is hard. So, what I am proposing in this post is for the members of FReeRepublic to help me out in finding some good news feeds for my site. This of course will make my site more appealing to users with similar interests to those of FR, but hey, where else could I get an educated, logical opinion on such a matter; DU? HAHAHAHAHA!...

SAN JOSE, Calif. - After getting a taste of the radio business in college, software designer Craig Patchett never lost his interest in broadcasting. But without a job in radio, it seemed likely to remain one of those unfulfilled passions — until something called "podcasting" came along. Now, Patchett's creating shows and sending them out to the masses every day — not over the airwaves to radios but over the Internet, from his personal computer in Carlsbad, Calif. His listeners download his shows to their iPods and other digital music players. Patchett, 43, is among a growing number of people...

Just wondering - has FR considered implementing an RSS feed? One that would alert to pings and mail, and maybe threads deemed important, would, I think, facilitate discussion here, without having to constantly check back.

People have been asking for a free republic RSS feed ( RSS FAQ ) for quite some time and while there isn't a traditional graphic there is a hidden meta tag which the new FireFox 1.0 browser discovered. Which means that if you're a newsfeed user you can finally subscribe directly to the free republic forums here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/browse.rss

NEW YORK - E-mail is crippled, concussed by an irrepressible spam stream. Web surfing can be equally confounding, a wobbly wade through bursts of pop-ups and loudmouthed video ads. And that may explain the excitement these days over a somewhat crude but nifty software tool that automatically delivers updated information to your computer directly from your favorite Web sites. Enthusiasts see these Web feeds as sketching the outline of the next Net revolution. The technology behind them is called RSS and I rely on it daily to consult The New York Times, the BBC, CNET News, Slashdot and a few...

Do you spend a fair amount of time hitting 'refresh' to keep up to date with the current news from Free Republic. If so, you might consider this free & efficient alternative that will automatically keep you on top of the news, “FreeRSS”. RSS or ‘Really Simple Syndication’ is an internet format that lets news sites publish a index of current stories with brief descriptions and links to the main stories. Because the readers only view full stories if they are interested in the topic, this saves bandwidth and time. RSS feeds are available from almost every major news site...

If you aren't familiar with the technology, RSS is a method for news & opinion sites (such as this one) to publish an index of new topics in XML such that visitors to the site can get regular updates using a news aggregator client (such as 'Feedreader'). The benefit to the user is that they don't need to continually refresh their browser because the reader just checks the index every couple minutes and lets the user know if any new topics exist. They can stay on top of hundreds of sites without any effort and can instantly go to a...
