Billy Willingham, 51, reportedly called 9-1-1 and said he had just shot someone in the leg. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they located a 41-year-old man lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound to his leg. (snip) The victim refused to leave despite being told to leave, Willingham said. He reportedly told the victim "he better leave or he would shoot him." The victim reportedly again refused to leave and Willingham shot him one time.

Pinni Shendorfi, the Haredi soldier from Nahal who refused the orders of his commanders to evacuate Jewish residents from three residential buildings in Yitzhar last Thursday, was brought before a court Tuesday and was removed from his combat position. Shendorfi refused the orders, saying he will not take part in a "mission against Jews." Pinni's mother, Ronit, said her son was not worried about possible jail time but was more worried that he would be taken out of combat, where he very much wanted to remain. ....

The Legal Forum for the Land of Israel has asked the Attorney General and Legal Advisor to the Government, Yehuda Weinstein, to launch a criminal investigation against the people who signed a petition calling on IAF pilots to refuse orders if they are told to attack Iran. A letter from the Forum's representative, Attorney Yossi Fuchs, mentions that according to media reports, 400 people, including senior members of academia, have signed the letter. Fuchs quotes Article 110 in the criminal code that says that "whoever incited or tried to persuade a person serving in the armed forces to disobey a...

President Obama has seen his standing among Catholic voters, a crucial segment of the electorate, slip in recent weeks, and a looming confrontation with Catholic activists could make it worse. Democrats want voters this year to focus on what they have branded a war on women, but the flip side of the debate — the so-called war on religion — is not going away anytime soon. Earlier this month, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops called for two weeks of public protest in June and July against what it sees as growing government encroachment on religious freedom. The protests are...

Solyndra Inc.'s chief executive officer and chief financial officer will invoke their 5th Amendment rights and not answer questions during a Friday hearing before a House investigative committee, their attorneys said. Attorneys for Solyndra Chief Executive Brian Harrison and W.G. "Bill" Stover, the company's chief financial officer, sent letters to the House Energy and Commerce Committee's investigative subcommittee Tuesday saying the two executives would not answer any questions during the hearing. "I have advised Mr. Harrison that he should decline to answer questions put to him by this subcommittee based on his rights under the Fifth Amendment," Harrison's attorney, Walter...

Conservative Recount Alert! — Etheridge Asks for Recount by renee on November 4, 2010 in Campaign Announcements Dear Supporters, http://www.reneeforcongress.com/landing-pages/help-our-recount-effort Election night, after the ten counties in my district had reported their votes, I led Bob Etheridge by 2,100 votes. (That number is crucial because under North Carolina law Congressman Etheridge is not entitled to an ‘automatic recount’ if he trails by more than 1% – or 1,888 votes.) Then, yesterday afternoon – unexpectedly – the vote totals changed. The State Board of Elections reported my lead had dropped to 1,600 votes. Two hours later Bob Etheridge announced he intended...

CBS and NBC have refused to air a provocative ad from the confrontational, well-funded National Republican Trust PAC that calls on Americans to oppose the building of a mosque two blocks from the World Trade Center site. The ad — which has about 100,000 views on YouTube — intersperses some of the most horrifying images from the Sept. 11 attacks with the sounds of Muslim prayer and images of Muslim militants. It focuses on what's become a divisive — and partisan — issue in New York state, the erection of a Muslim cultural center on Park Place, in the neighborhood

MOBILE, Ala. -- A month ago, as BP struggled to contain an oil spill that it estimated at 200,000 gallons a day, the Press-Register reported that the company's federal permit documents stated that it could handle a spill of 12.6 million gallons a day. BP's documents also said that it could skim 17 million gallons of oil a day; thus far it has skimmed just 2 million gallons in seven weeks. The documents -- BP's Regional Oil Spill Response Plan -- are riddled with inaccurate claims and errors, including an online address for an equipment supplier that instead links to...

President Barack Obama should follow the example set by North Vietnamese negotiator Le Duc Tho in 1973 and refuse the Nobel Peace Prize. Many are criticizing the decision to award Obama the Peace Prize. This isn't the first controversial decision by the Nobel committee. It is inconceivable that the Commander in Chief of a nation whose troops are actively engaged in armed combat should be awarded a peace prize. I happen to support the U.S. role in both conflicts, but recognize that involvement in war is inconsistent with receiving the Nobel Prize. If Obama has made an "extraordinary effort" for...

See the video Democrats refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance! In this case, though, the context actually improves the story. This takes place in Albany, where the New York state Senate remains locked in a power struggle in an evenly divided chamber. Rather than an insult to American patriotism, the Democrats here engaged in an insult to the intelligence of New Yorkers:

CINCINNATI (AP) -- A trash-hauling company serving parts of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana says an economy down in the dumps has meant a decline in garbage. Rumpke Consolidated Companies Inc. says waste collections are down 10 to 15 percent. At Rumpke headquarters in suburban Cincinnati, spokeswoman Amanda Pratt says manufacturing has seen cutbacks and residents are buying less, so there isn't as much trash at the curb. The company says its business also has been hurt by a slide in commodities prices. Chief financial officer Phil Wehrman says Rumpke could sell recycled cardboard and newspapers for $130 per ton last...

Action by nurses opposed to abortion has reduced by more than half the number of terminations in a Puerto Rican hospital. Fifty-two nurses in the obstetrics unit at the University Hospital for Adults in San Juan, Puerto Rico, have not been assisting at abortions for several months. The hospital is the only public hospital on the Caribbean island that carries out the operation. The nurses have cited "conscientious objection" in their defence - a legal right in Puerto Rico that allows medical personnel to refuse participation in procedures they morally oppose. Dr Riccardo Moscoso, the hospital medical director, told The...

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate on Wednesday rejected legislation that would cut off money for combat operations in Iraq after March 31, 2008. The vote was a loss for Sen. Russell Feingold, D-Wis., and other Democrats who want to end the war. But the effort picked up support from members, including presidential hopefuls previously reluctant to limit war funding - an indication of the conflict's unpopularity among voters. The proposal lost 29-67 on a procedural vote, falling 31 votes short of the necessary votes to advance. Of the 67 senators who opposed Feingold's proposal, there were 19 Democrats, 47 Republicans...

Britain offers more troops for Afghanistan if allies refuse Mark Townsend, defence correspondent Sunday September 10, 2006 The Observer (UK) More British troops and helicopters are on standby for deployment to Afghanistan, a highly controversial development that will compound unease over UK operations in the increasingly volatile Helmand province. If other members of the Nato alliance refuse to supply the reinforcements of soldiers and equipment demanded by its military chief, Whitehall sources have conceded for the first time that extra UK troops will make up the shortfall. Despite concerns that the British army is being stretched too far, The Observer...
