When President George W. Bush addresses parliament today, he speaks to a nation that is in some ways typical and in other ways exceptional. If one were to take seriously the opinions of most Australian media pundits, one would conclude that Australia's close alliance with the US runs counter to the worldwide trend of anti-Americanism.
