The Coronavirus is here and the first thing to do is to take reasonable precautions to prevent infection starting with the simple step of declining to shake hands with everyone. Just say NO!! But at home you do need to be reasonably ready for the possibility that you may be quarantined yourself or that your city/town might be isolated for as much as eight weeks. FEMA has a great list to start with and you can find it here: https://www.fema.gov/media-library-data/1390846764394-dc08e309debe561d866b05ac84daf1ee/checklist_2014.pdf The LDS also have a useful list of things to store up on and it's a good list to check...
  • What is a Patriot to do?

    01/16/2020 8:54:48 PM PST · by logit1 · 59 replies
This is a serious question. What is a Patriot to do in America today to further the cause? You can't be involved in any "organized militia" activity or you will be labeled and put on lists. You can't start a Tea Party group or you will be targeted by government agencies. You can't really trust the Republican Party...we have seen their true nature. Really what can one do to help?

Family Fresh Market closed its doors at the Farmington, Minnesota, location for the final time Thursday afternoon. In November, the store's parent company announced it was pulling out of Farmington, a city south of the Twin Cities with a population of more than 21,000 people. It was the only grocery store in town. As the staple shuttered, community partners rushed to find ways to fill the gap to help thousands of vulnerable residents. "It's a public health crisis," said Farmington City Council member Joshua Hoyt. "We literally have residents who don't have immediate access to simple things like food and...

I have been working on a knowledge base of topics related to prepping and SHTF situations. It is geared towards making people more self sufficient with topics ranging from unarmed self defense to small space gardening to how to sew your own clothes. I'm one of those types of people who believe that we are going to go out with a whimper, not a bang, so there is a lot of content on how to do your own repairs, build your own stuff and live a more frugal lifestyle. In order to get access you need to send me a...
  • Boil water advisory issued for nearly 900 households after Mount Washington water main break

    The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | October 12, 2019 | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for nearly 900 households in parts of Pittsburgh’s West End neighborhoods after a water main broke on Mount Washington Saturday afternoon. The boil water and flush advisory applies to portions of Ridgemont, Westwood and Elliott, according to the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority. Many residents in the area had no water service or experienced low water pressure due to the break, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. along a 16-inch water main on Virginia Avenue at Kearsarge Street, the PWSA said. PWSA officials said the break was isolated and normal water service was...

-In a recent article on AmmoLand News, a case was presented as to why stockpiling of more than a few hundred rounds of ammunition was unnecessary. It was an interesting take, but much too limited, in my experience. In the end, the authors put in a disclaimer: stockpile as much as you want. The self-imposed limitations of the presentation were this: They only considered four reasons to stockpile ammunition. They limited the scenarios applicable to those reasons. Here is a quick critique of the four reasons they listed not to stockpile ammunition: 1. Self-Defense – not unreasonable, in that a...

The wife and I own a log cabin weekend/vacation home in WV which is running on treated well water. We also own another lot diagonally down and directly across the street on which we built a guest house/airbnb rental that we're making great money on. Instead of drilling another well when we built that house, we had another water line dug from our house down to that, and it's working great. It's a private dirt road, so we had no problem trenching the new water line across the street. A neighbor owns a hunting cabin on a lot diagonally across...
  • Asteroids! WWIII! N. Korea! Military bunkers transformed into survivalist homes in S. Dakota

The motto "always be prepared" is wise advice, but one man is taking the mantra to the max. He's got former military bunkers spanning a space that is three-quarters the size of Manhattan, and is selling them to survivalists. Survivalists and so-called "preppers" are often the brunt of jokes, with insults ranging from "paranoid" to "weird" and everything in between. But Robert Vicino couldn't disagree more. He runs a company which is currently focused on transforming military bunkers into doomsday shelters. The shelters are in Middle of Nowhere, USA, otherwise known as Edgemont, South Dakota. It's barely on the map,...

I’ve been missing the vast amount of information on prepping, survival, camping, simple cooking, the old ways of doing just about everything – all the things nw_arizona_granny knew so much about and shared with us, along with numerous other posters with a vast array of skills and knowledge. We have our various related-threads here, a recipe thread, a gardening thread, and even a prepper thread. They are all great and I don’t mean to take anything away from those and the hard work their owners put in. But I was missing a place to talk about ALL those things, to...

1,000 bunkers will be built by US company Atlas Survival Shelters in the next 12 months, compared to just 50 in the past year. The swanky shelters include cinemas, spas, bars and even underground gardens. Several Brit A-Listers in Hollywood have already snapped up the survival pads, which cost £150,000 each. North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un's aggressive nuclear programme is driving demand, with most of the new bunkers being built in Japan and South Korea. Donald Trump has increased the pressure on North Korea, warning that there will be war if they don't stop their agressive behaviour. Up to 5,000...

There is a parallel between the core basics of survival and those things that nature takes from us in one of these powerful hurricanes. When I think of survival and the very basics, there is shelter, water, food and fire. As the powerful winds and punishing rains of Hurricane Harvey approached Texas people were most concerned with these survival basics. It was immediately apparent that there were many people unprepared to deal with the aftermath of this storm. Most resources were gobbled up in storm prep and no one really knew when trucks would return to Houston to restock shelves....

The takedown of the Puerto Rican power grid by Hurricane Irma will, we hope, provide a teaching moment. The United States power grid is vulnerable, and the consequences of a widespread failure, especially if lengthy, will be a disaster of monumental proportions. This should not be a new realization. Serious analysts such as the Foundation for Resilient Societies and the EMP Commission have been warning us for a long time. The warnings have been ignored or even actively opposed by the electric power industry. America's electric grid can be brought down by sabotage or by natural forces, such as the...

If you consider buying a farm or you already have some field and want to use it for this purpose, you would need to know about 10 easiest goat breeds to raise. First of all, you need to know why to choose goats instead of cows, pigs, or sheep? They give the same product as these three breeds, but products of cows, pigs, and sheep are more in demand. Well, that is true, but, when you look at the numbers, you will see that raising goats is more profitable and better in every matter than keeping these three. First of...

It’s always interesting reading when someone smug and sanctimonious writes a clueless diatribe about another group of people being smug and sanctimonious. So when I saw that an economist for Moody’s and Forbes had written an op-ed calling self-reliant homesteaders “delusional,” I knew I’d be in for some misinformed hilarity. The article, entitled, “Dear Homesteaders, Self-Reliance Is a Delusion” was published a couple of days ago on the Forbes website. You’ll be forewarned that the article won’t be deep in the first paragraph, when the author presents his claim to knowledge about self-reliant living comes from the fact that he...

We all like to scoff at that crazy little dictator, Kim Jong Un, who is a walking caricature, putting himself on the cover of a magazine as the sexiest man alive and talking smack like a WWF champ. But, in all seriousness, is North Korea actually a threat?Unfortunately, it looks like the answer to that question is yes…and they’re turning into a bigger one each year.Despite the buffoonery of their Dear Leader, the threat of North Korea is growing rapidly, according to the US Intelligence community. When prepping for a nuclear strike becomes the officially recommended course of action, it...
