WHEN YOU GO to vote on Tuesday, you might find your polling place has moved since you last voted, thanks to new laws and court action. And if you're in a Latino area of the city, the Justice Department wants a judge to order federal observers into your polling place. The feds say they're protecting your rights; the city fears voter intimidation. At least one thing should be reassuring: City officials have figured out what caused more than 200 electronic voting machines to break down in May, and they're confident that won't happen again. He didn't get to the question of what, exactly, the Republicans will have to prove at trial. Bridges' order confirmed his ruling at a Feb. 4 hearing. Bridges denied the Democrats' motion...

SEATTLE, Dec. 22 - After a bitter and protracted recount fight in the Washington governor's race, elections officials announced Wednesday that the Democratic candidate, Christine O. Gregoire, was leading her Republican opponent by 10 votes - a minuscule margin but a stunning reversal of the Nov. 2 election results. The preliminary results elated Democratic Party officials and came only hours after the party scored another victory, when the State Supreme Court agreed with the Democrats' contention that more than 700 newly discovered and erroneously disqualified ballots in heavily Democratic King County should now be considered. Since those ballots came from...
