A video on a hypothesis that the Inca stone walls in Peru were actually constructed by using a stone slurry packed into containers and hardened by fire/ This is a follow up to the previous thread about technology needed to cut precision stonework for the Egyptian pyramids and monuments. It hypothesizes a new theory of building neolithic stoneworks with techniques that are still used today, albeit in much smaller adobe structures.

Japanese archaeologists have discovered 24 new geoglyphs on the Nazca Plateau in Peru that were created two centuries earlier than the giant images that the region is famous for. Archaeologists from the University of Yamagata in Japan made the discovery a mile north of the city of Nazca, in central Peru. The shapes are mostly geometrical, including a figure resembling a flame, along with what appears to be a llama, with the largest being 20m long. The geoglyphs, found in surveys between last December and February, have been reported to the Peruvian government. The geoglyphs are almost invisible on the...

ver 100 new geoglyphs depicting fish, snakes and humanoids, among other things, have been identified near Nazca, Peru—thanks, at least in part, to artificial intelligence. Researchers at Yamagata University and IBM Japan used AI technology belonging to the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in New York to locate 142 geoglyphs, which are thought to date back to a period between 100 BCE and 300 CE. A plethora of living things are represented in this ancient artwork, from fish and birds to monkeys, camelids and humanoids. They were constructed by removing rocks, leaving a negative image in the white sand...

On Wednesday, President Evo Morales, a former coca grower, signed the bill into law allowing farmers to plant up to 54,000 acres in coca — up from 29,000 under the previous legislation. Bolivia is the world’s third largest cocaine producer after Colombia and Peru. Once the new law goes in effect, Morales’ government has said it wants to “industrialize” the added production, but analysts and critics fear it will be diverted to cocaine production. Opposition lawmakers are planning to sue to block the law, calling it unconstitutional because it breaches international treaties. They said it would turn Bolivia into a...

The centuries-old remains of more than 200 children have been discovered in Peru, according to reports. Experts say that the macabre discovery is likely the world’s largest child sacrifice site. The children, who were between the ages of 4 and 14, reportedly were sacrificed to honor the gods of the pre-Columbian Chimu culture. Experts think that the children — killed during wet weather and buried facing the sea — were sacrificed in relation to an “El Niño” event. Peruvian press agency Andina reports that archaeologists found the skeletal remains of 250 children and 40 warriors at Huanchaco, 346 miles north...

Every Columbus Day, liberals insist that the story of European colonization is a simple narrative of good versus evil: horrible Europeans came upon innocent Native Americans, introducing slavery, exploitation, and oppression. A massive archaeological discovery blows one of many gaping holes in this narrative. While Europeans did indeed do horrible things, the natives weren't exactly innocent. Two hundred and fifty skeletons of children between the ages of 4 and 14 have been unearthed at Huanchaco, Peru, in what experts say is likely the world's largest child-sacrifice site. Huanchaco is a site of the Chimú culture (1200-1400), a predecessor to the...

In 2006, I was surprised to find myself sitting at a formal dinner in the middle of a 200-year-old debating society at Cambridge University in England. In a few minutes I, and five others were about to engage in a debate over the usefulness of the United Nations. But here, for a few minutes longer, at the long dinner table with the crisp, white tablecloth, I was sitting next to one of my fellow debaters, Salis Shetty, the head of the UN’s Millennium Project. I had ignored him through most of the dinner, but with just a few minutes left...
