The New York Times Book Review (search) is considered the industry bible of what’s hot and what’s not in books. But the publication is coming under increasing fire for what some authors are calling a liberal bias.

“I think a paper that says ‘All the News That’s Fit to Print’ has a responsibility of covering most things,” said Doug Dutton, manager of Dutton’s bookstore in Los Angeles. “But I think it would be disingenuous to say that the New York Times doesn’t have a leftist slant.”

I want my own talk radio show. I deserve it. I know what I'm saying. It's a fact. What I say is right. It's not just my opinion. It's the way things are.

Be loud. Be adamant. Belittle. Be a talk radio host.

"I may take a look, certainly the option is open if I want it," the Fox News star told Long Island's liberal Newsday. "But what I want to do over the next few years here is clean up the process. We have the bad guys on the run - no question about that." But all that's way off in the future, he said, noting that, "the country's not interested in an independent candidacy. Maybe in 10 years they will be, but right now, you have 50 percent of Americans who don't know anything - they're totally disengaged from the process,...

It is simply astounding that some people are spinning this Reagan movie controversy as a censorship issue. The usual left-wing suspects are screaming the "conservatives" forced CBS to abandon the project. The New York Times editorialized, "It should have come as no surprise that conservatives, protective of Mr. Reagan's image at all times, would launch on the fierce assaults that have become so familiar whenever the right wants to scare the media ... " And Barbra Streisand, an increasingly amusing presence, says "this is censorship pure and simple." One wonders if The Times and La Streisand would react the same...

A couple of weeks ago in this space, I ran down the strengths and weaknesses of the Democratic presidential contenders. So now, to be fair and balanced, let's evaluate President Bush. His strongest suit is the bond he forged with the American people after the 9/11 terror attack. Bush reacted the way most Americans reacted: with anger and a stark determination to right the wrong. And he did, he dethroned the Taliban and sent Al Qaeda into the caves. That provided Bush with an emotional attachment to the folks. Only two other American Presidents in my lifetime have had that:...

Is there anyone watching the Factor (Bill O’Reilly) tonight? I have been and I am pissed that he first discounted W’s involvement in “reserves” as not counting as military duty. Then Bill O’Reilly pushed a point that ended with him saying “the Pentagon is either lying or they don’t know”. I recently retired from the “pentagon” and I want to assure you that mostly we knew and we never lied. I am very disappointed the O’Reilly pissed on reservist and pentagoners. I think that O’Reilly is so determined to be seen as a neuter, that he has in fact neutered...

If you've ever wanted to be a reporter, here's your chance. Walk into any record store and ask the clerk who's buying the new CD by gangsta rapper Ludacris, with the sure-to-be classic tune "Hoes in My Room." Then go to the nearest multiplex theater and see who's buying tickets to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Kill Bill," a movie some have labeled the most violent film ever made. But if you don't want to do the leg work, I can tell you right now who is consuming these products: children. Let's take a look at "Kill Bill" (which, by...

A recent Gallup poll says nearly half the country believes the media are biased left, and this poll proves one thing: The people who told the pollsters that are smarter than I am. For most of my journalistic career, I did not believe there was institutional bias in the media. I felt there was exclusionary bias. That is, certain opinions and issues simply were ignored. I worked for two network news companies, and the only time you'd hear an anti-abortion opinion would be if some nut blew up an abortion clinic. But I've learned the hard way that liberal bias...

Gutter-lyric rap star Ludacris has fired back at his cable news nemesis, Bill O'Reilly, for getting Pepsi to stop using him in their commercials last year - by apparently insulting the top talker in his latest musical endeavor, "Hoes in My Room." We say "apparently" because the song in question is so vulgarity-laden it's hard to tell what the gangsta rapper is trying to say. In a verse sung with that other poet of the streets, Snoop-Doggy-Dog, Ludacris waxes indelicately about several "hoes" who evidently appeared in his dressing room one day. "Now, these chicks wouldn't leave, they was...

Subj: Imelda Rivera calls for the impeachment of the Pope. Date: 10/18/03 10:41:24 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: ABUTOM What is this the new American tradition? Double hoof a guy when he is down? I am watching Fox and I thought I was back on MSNBC or CBS, ABC or CNN. Or where will Geraldo be next? When he moves does he go back to chameleon politics? Why is that the people that want the Pope to step down are not Catholic? Except for holier than thou O'Reilly. Who got his tie caught in his fly and his staff ignored...

Gross vs. O'Reilly: Culture Clash on NPR By Jeffrey A. Dvorkin Ombudsman National Public Radio On October 9, Terry Gross, longtime host of NPR's Fresh Air aired her interview with populist political talk show host Bill O'Reilly. The e-mails and phone calls of outrage are still arriving. The interview was taped the day before on October 8. The ostensible reason was to talk about O'Reilly's latest book, Who's Looking Out For You? The book is about, among other things, the claim that America is in the midst of what O'Reilly calls a "cultural war between left and right." And he...

Saturday, October 18, 2003 Media Bias A recent Gallup Poll says nearly half the country believes the media are biased left, and this poll proves one thing: The people who told the pollsters that are smarter than I am. For most of my journalistic career, I did not believe there was institutional bias on the part of the media. I felt there was an exclusionary bias. That is, certain opinions and issues simply were ignored by the major media. For example, I worked for two network news organizations, and the only time you'd hear a pro-life opinion would be if...

Top-rated TV talker Bill O’Reilly said that he would no longer be drinking Pepsi; as long as rapper Ludacris is their spokesman. O’Reilly accused Ludacris by saying, “I'm calling for all responsible Americans to fight back and punish Pepsi for using a man who degrades women, who encourages substance abuse, and does all the things that hurt particularly the poor in our society.” He continued, "I'm calling for all Americans to say, Hey, Pepsi, I'm not drinking your stuff. You want to hang around with Ludacris, you do that, I'm not hanging around with you." Pepsi eventually fired Ludacris, but...

This is so typical of NPR. Its time that we push our congress to stop funding of this liberal organization. I spent this morning listening to the interview with Bill O'Reilly on NPR. Terry Gross was unfair in her interview. She did spend the whole interview attacking Bill's credibility. Did she do the same when she interviewed Al Franken? No. NPR is a liberal organization that stays in business because of the American taxpayer. You and I.

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly has deposed Bill and Hillary's media attack dog Al Franken from the top spot on the New York Times bestseller list, with the TV talker's new book "Who's Looking Out for You?" set to take over the number one slot on Oct. 12. O'Reilly's critics were gloating over the fact that Franken's book attacking Fox News and other conservatives had risen to number one, where it stayed for five weeks. But now it's O'Reilly's turn to gloat. As NewsMax reported last week, the Fox host's book contains much more than sage advice on how to...

Baseball matters in Seattle, so this scribe was glued to the Mariners-A's game a couple of weeks back and missed his 15 seconds of fame (or infamy) on national television. In his nightly Talking Points, Fox News loudmouth Bill O'Reilly labeled me a "left-wing columnist" and accused me of deliberately misrepresenting an incident in which O'Reilly told the anti-war son of a World Trade Center victim to "shut up!" and cut short his interview. Congressman-for-life Jim McDermott, Councilwoman Judy Nicastro and the Church Council would probably dispute the left-wing label. And the O'Reilly ego might have swelled had he known...
