President Trump will travel to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota on July 3 to watch a fireworks display. Trump confirmed the visit during a radio interview Friday with Dan Bongino.

Former FBI Director James Comey said Monday he took inspiration from a visit to Mount Rushmore in a brief message sent amid a chaotic day of headlines that included an order from President Trump to declassify Comey's text messages related to the Russia investigation. "Enjoyed today’s visit: An inspiring reminder that we always emerge stronger from hard times," Comey tweeted along with a photo in front of the memorial in South Dakota. Comey, who was fired in May 2017 and regularly tweets both subtle and overt criticisms of Trump, sent his latest message a short time after the president ordered...

So I set my flux capacitor to the year 2030. I was hoping to get a glimpse of the S&P 500's value at that date.

More than ever, old monuments to famous white American men are being threatened in the name of progress. Naturally, this has become a rallying cry on the far right, with plenty of encouragement from the most powerful man in the world. At the same unhinged press conference in which Donald Trump again blamed both sides for the deadly violence in Charlottesville last weekend, he also painted a picture of a slippery slope where those fighting for the removal of Confederate statues today might be destroying tributes to more mainstream slave-owning icons like George Washington tomorrow. He lamented this prospect once...

Donald Trump told a joke at a rally about being added among the US presidents on Mount Rushmore. His remarks got a mixed reaction as people imagined the current President on the mountain alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Mr Trump made the comment during a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, where he said that "every president on Mount Rushmore believed in protecting American industry.”

The story behind a plaque at Mount Rushmore explaining the history of the United States of America with quite a Christian flavor would probably surprise many people. President Calvin Coolidge met the artist Gutzon Borglum who prompted him to dedicate the site for a carving of four president's busts in the 1920's. Coolidge helped to raise funds and was even present as the cornerstone was laid and said, “We have come here to dedicate a cornerstone laid by the hand of the Almighty. …The union of these four presidents carved on the face of the everlasting Black Hills of South...

According to a survey of George Washington University professors, some 30 percent generally endorse the eventual addition of President Barack Obama’s face to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The survey, conducted and reported by The College Fix, is hampered by an extremely limited sample size. Nonetheless, the results are fascinating. Of the 10 history and political science profs queried, three suggested that Obama may eventually be added to the huge sculpture of four enormous presidential heads carved into the granite face of a mountain in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Professor Paul Wahlbeck, who chairs the political science department...

'If Teddy Roosevelt is the measure, I think it strengthens the case for President Obama' Al Sharpton aired a segment concerning a recent National Journal article which analyzed President Obama’s chances of attaining a coveted spot on Mt. Rushmore Friday evening on MSNBC. Teddy Roosevelt’s presence on the landmark garnered particular attention from Sharpton, who expressed his opinion that Roosevelt’s thin resume as a “transformative president” strengthens the case for Obama to be included: ABBY HUNTSMAN: You look at Reagan, he ended the Cold War. I think they have to have a legacy that changed America. Obama was the first...

This was a question that I put out to a number of my friends and contacts last week, on Twitter and across a couple of e-mail lists. Imagine for a moment that Mt. Rushmore had never been built and the mountain still stood today as a natural rock outcrop. Could we come together as a nation and build such a monument in 2012? There are a number of questions to be wrestled to the ground on this one. Who would pay for it and how? Who would oppose it and why? And – perhaps most contentious of all – which...

Cornel West criticized President Barack Obama, saying he’s “obsessed with being on Mount Rushmore” and is focusing too much on his “legacy.”

Per Fox... United Nations "diplomats" have concluded a tour of the U.S., speaking to Indian tribes in six states. According to Fox, many of the tribes involved told the UN they need the UN's help in reclaiming "ancestral sacred land," included in which would be the Mt. Rushmore monument and surrounding national park. One is left to wonder just what changes to Mt. Rushmore would then be made. The Obama Administration was reportedly responsible for arranging the UN tour. Just in time for the 2012 elections. Your $3B/year UN dues at work.

Why let a holiday season come between the White House and making some political statements? The White House pegged controversial designer Simon Doonon to oversee the Christmas decorations for the White House. Mr. Doonon, who is creative director of Barney’s New York has often caused a stir with his design choices. Like his naughty yuletide window display of Margaret Thatcher as a dowdy dominatrix and Dan Quayle as a ventriloquist’s dummy. For this year’s White House, he didn’t disappoint. These photos of ornaments on the White House Christmas tree in the Blue Room were taken just days ago. Of course, Mao...

John F. Kennedy remains a beloved figure almost a half century after his death. Rush Limbaugh is still the main man to Republicans. Although polls show dramatically declining support for a government run health care system, the vast majority of Americans aren't sure what it is they dislike. Such are the results of a new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair survey. JFK was the No. 1 response when Americans were asked which president they would like to see added to Mount Rushmore. Twenty-nine percent named the president assassinated 46 years ago. Ronald Reagan was next with the support of 20 percent of...

Gone are the days of five-a-day campaign stops. Enjoying a lighter load on the campaign trail with two stops in South Dakota Wednesday and two stops Thursday Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton played tourist at Mt. Stay out of South Dakota. That's the message one pro-choice group has for its supporters. The Wisconsin-based Women's Medical Fund is calling for a boycott of South Dakota tourism if Governor Mike Rounds signs a bill banning most abortions. It's the state's second largest industry, but South Dakota tourism could see a drop in visitors who don't support a ban on abortion. Annie Laurie Gaylor of the Women's Medical Fund says, "Women across the country and those who believe in women's rights need to act immediately to let South Dakotans know that we will bypass South Dakota, that we can...
