A Massachusetts bill would hide the truth about abortion by stripping the terms “mother” and “unborn child” from the legal definition of pregnancy. The state Remove Obstacles and Expand Abortion Access Act (ROE Act) is similar to a radical new pro-abortion law in New York that legalized abortion for basically any reason up to birth. The Massachusetts bill would expand late-term abortions after 24 weeks for any loosely defined “health” reason, and repeal the state law requiring parental consent for minors. It also would end the state law that requires basic medical care for infants born alive from botched abortions....

FULL TITLE: Pregnant mother, 32, died saving her kids from driver who 'repeatedly plowed into family of eight after he was asked to stop blowing smoke at them' An enraged driver has been accused of intentionally plowing his car into a family of eight, killing a 32-year-old pregnant mother and injuring a father and their six children. Police believe an argument between the driver, identified as 35-year-old Jason Mendez, and the family may have sparked the Wednesday afternoon attack at a 7-Eleven store in Haverstraw, New York. Witnesses reported that father-of-six Shawn DeLoatch had asked Mendez not to blow smoke...

An Arlington baby broke hospital records, weighing nearly 15 pounds at birth. Baby boy Ali is a gift the Medlock family once thought they’d never receive. Now, Ali is nearly twice the size of an average newborn, weighing 14 pounds 13 ounces. He broke the record at Arlington Memorial Hospital. Ali was born via C-section. Jennifer said she had a very healthy pregnancy; however, Ali did spend a week in the NICU because his blood sugar and platelettes were low. “It doesn’t matter how big he is, I’m so blessed,” said Jennifer. Ali was a blessing in many ways for...

She said she was disheartened when she turned to a worldwide registry of donors and none were compatible. "It was 30 million people," she said. "Thirty million people, and no matches for me." So Rabaca and the rest of her family partnered with Be The Match, an organization operated by the National Marrow Donor Program, to encourage people to register to donate bone marrow. Thanks to their fierce campaigning, Rabaca's story spread and gained attention from the likes of country singer Carrie Underwood, who asked her Twitter followers, "who wants to save a life for Christmas?" In a matter of...

A day after the state fire marshal said more arrests are coming in the gruesome burning death of a Natchitoches infant, another arrest has been made. Not surprising to many, that person is the baby's mother. In separate but simultaneous news release, the Natchitoches Police Department and State Fire Marshal's Office announced the arrest of Hanna Barker, 22, of Natchitoches on one count of principal to first-degree murder in the death of her 6-month-old son, Levi Cole Ellerbe. “When you’re charged with a principal to a crime that means you had a part in the crime. You may or may...

White Double of the Second Class UNITING THE BLOOD OF KINGS with that of pontiffs, the glory of Anne’s illustrious origin is far surpassed by that of her offspring, without compare among the daughters of Eve. The noblest of all, who have ever conceived by virtue of the command to “increase and multiply,” beholds the law of human generation pause before her as having arrived at its summit, at the threshold of God; for from her fruit God himself is come forth, the fatherless Son of the Blessed Virgin, and the grandson of Anne and Joachim. Before being favored...

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio - Visitors to the Sandy Ridge Reservation on Sunday witnessed a traumatic nature event when a non-resident bald eagle attacked the eagles nesting there. As birders and trail walkers watched in horror, the invading eagle repeatedly thrashed at the nesting female with its sharp beak and talons, eventually driving it away. The gravely wounded female was later found on a roadside in North Ridgeville and taken to the rehabilitation clinic at the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center, where it died, said Senior Park Naturalist Tim Fairweather. But the invading eagle wasn't finished with its assault. Wednesday was my Mom’s 92 birthday. The past two weeks she has been very sick. I took her to the hospital on the 5th, as she didn’t feel well. They said that there was really nothing they could do for her. She was transferred to the Hospice House on Wednesday. Things would get better than worse. I sat with her all night for her birthday. At 7am Thursday she took her last breath. I want to thank everyone here for their support. Ed

Missouri lawmakers listened Tuesday as a woman held her infant son and told them not to ban late-term abortions. She was one of several abortion activists and pro-life advocates who testified about a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks during a Missouri House hearing, the Columbia Missourian reports. The legislation, state House Bill 1266, sponsored by state Rep. Donna Lichtenegger, R-Jackson, would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks when unborn babies are capable of feeling intense pain. “If a nervous system is fully functional, it feels pain, so that’s why we are wanting to not have an abortion after 20...

Taiwan's top court has ordered a dentist to pay his mother around Tw$22.33 million (S$1 million) as reimbursement for the money she spent raising and educating him. The supreme court Tuesday upheld a previous ruling that the 41-year-old, identified by his family name Chu, should honour a contract he signed with his mother 20 years ago promising to refund her. The plaintiff, surnamed Lo, divorced her husband in 1990 and raised their two sons on her own. Worried that nobody would look after her when she got old, Lo signed the contracts with her sons after they both turned 20,...

It's time to look back on 2017 and see what happened at the multiplex. And for some titles it wasn't pretty. Though 2017 found some success stories — like the early-year releases "Get Out" and "Split" from Blumhouse, the fall favorite "It," and presumably "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" when it comes out in mid-December — numerous titles were dead on arrival. For every "Beauty and the Beast" and "Wonder Woman" in 2017, there was a dud like "CHiPs" and "mother!" that quickly followed. Here are the 10 worst box-office earners of the year (compare them to our list from...

The reflective Mary Eberstadt has the latest Weekly Standard cover story, asserting that the late rise of identity politics especially among the young descends from the decline in family, despite myriad other theories. An excerpt: Maybe that cultural scream of ‘mine!’ is issuing from souls who did have something taken from them—only something more elemental than the totemic objects now functioning as figurative blankies for lost and angry former children. As of today, less than 65 percent of American children live with both biological parents, even as other familial boughs have broken via external forces like the opioid crisis, criminality...

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A North Carolina teenager accused of decapitating his mother is psychotic and won't be prosecuted on a murder charge, his attorney said Wednesday. A judge ordered 19-year-old Oliver Funes Machada involuntarily committed to a state psychiatric hospital after a series of mental health evaluations, including those by state experts, defense attorney Boyd Sturges said. Machada was ruled incompetent to proceed with his case. "This is consistent with what our position is," Sturges said. "We feel that Mr. Machada is very, very seriously deranged. And clearly he's psychotic, and we think the state's correct."   Sturges said the...
