In the midst of foreign enemy pitched firefights, IED’s and rocket barrages, the Ohio military service men and women are now being targeted by an enemy at home as well. Obama presidential campaign officials, with the apparent go ahead from the commander-in-chief is suing to eliminate the legal voting rights of Ohio military soldiers. Millions in Ohio and across the nation may regard this as an unthinkable act of unbelievable disservice to soldiers who place themselves in harm’s way daily. Of course, they would be correct. For a calculating politician who had just visited the Buckeye State, just scant days...

The Disfranchisement of Our Military Voters By Hans A. von Spakovsky and Eric Eversole Published September 07, 2011 | FoxNews.com Time and again, Eric Holder’s Justice Department and its Civil Rights Division has shown how highly partisan it is. From its dismissal of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation case, to its harassment of jurisdictions with voter ID laws, the Division has proven that its far-left liberal ideology determines whether it will enforce (or not enforce) the law. Now it is ignoring the plight of military voters.

Thomas E. Perez, assistant attorney general for civil rights, is testifying today about military voting problems before the House Administration Committee. He should get hammered for the bureaucracy’s laggard attention to making sure those who defend our rights can exercise their own right to vote. Despite Justice Department claims to the contrary, voting procedures for troops and civilians stationed overseas were plagued by difficulties in 2010. Bumbling and obstinacy at Justice are part of the problem. At issue for much of last year was implementation of the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act, which requires that ballots for these...

WASHINGTON — As the effect of a new law protecting the rights of overseas U.S. voters is felt, those voters are reporting an easier time in requesting and receiving ballots. But a very substantial number of their ballots still went uncounted in the 2010 midterm elections, according to a private foundation. “There was definitely an indication from the voters themselves that there was improvement,” Claire M. Smith, research director for the Overseas Vote Foundation, said Thursday in explaining the group’s findings. “One voter said, ‘For the first time in 34 years, I got my ballot on time.”’ Improved procedures received...

PJM covered the mess and delays associated with military voting during the 2010 election. The first set of Congressional hearings to investigate the failures of the Department of Justice to monitor the implementation and compliance with the MOVE Act are scheduled for next Tuesday. Accuracy-challenged Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez takes the stand to put lipstick on the DOJ military voting enforcement pig. The hearings should be full of fireworks, especially given the release of a study by the Overseas Vote Foundation (OVF). The study confirmed many of the issues raised by me, as well as the Military Voter Protection Project...

An amazing revelation over at BigGovernment.com. They report Illinois has been “lying” about whether or not military ballots mailed on September 18 as required by Federal law. They lied to the DOJ. Obviously if they did lie, this is not a happy day for America’s servicemembers. But take special note of why the lie worked: because the Department of Justice deploys a Keystone Kops enforcement operation. You can actually read the extent of the Justice Department’s inquiry to Illinois here. It isn't much. After the Illinois board of elections tells the DOJ that the ballots mailed in time in all the...

For many Americans, the 2008 presidential election was historic, both in its outcome and the number of citizens who voted, many for the first time. The overall turnout of the votingeligible population was 61.7 percent, the highest turnout since the 1964 presidential election.[1] Local election officials in many states reported high levels of voting by many individuals who have not traditionally participated in the election process. The same, however, cannot be said for America's military members and their votingage dependents ("military voters"). For these voters, especially those serving in dangerous combat zones like Iraq and Afghanistan, the 2008 presidential...

John Kerry is fond of touting the number of people who attend his campaign events and likes to crack, "And that's not a Katherine Harris count." But Kerry and other Democrats never mention when they whine about the 2000 election that ballots from America's military -- 75 percent of whom vote Republican -- were disqualified in greater numbers than ever before in history. Unfortunately, things aren't looking any better for the disenfranchised military voters this year, Human Events reports. An Internet absentee voting system was cancelled due to security concerns. And it takes sometimes up to four months for our...

To become President, Al Gore was willing to disenfranchise men and women risking their lives for us. COUNT OFF "It's really quite simple," Al said. "The one who's behind should have led, So we'll void votes for George And then we will forge Enough ballots to put me ahead." The truth could hardly be more different. Duval County is "home to more military families than any other county in Florida," observes (Bill) Sammon. "So it was no surprise," he says, "that Duval had more absentee ballots from overseas than any other county -- 618 of 3,500 cast statewide. Neither was...
