So apparently Mavericks fans don't know how to properly celebrate a championship. They're dancing in the streets, cheering, and generally just having fun. No reports of violence, no cars burning, in short tens of thousands of fans and no riots. Do have some idiots parking on I35 to look over the parade. That's about the worst of it. C'mon, Dallas. Haven't we learned anything from LA about how to celebrate a championship or Vancouver about how to riot? Man, these Texans... /HEAVY sarcasm!

company run by former Dallas Mavericks owner Ross Perot Jr. filed suit Monday against the club and Mark Cuban's company that holds majority ownership in it, alleging that it's insolvent or verging on insolvency. In the 13-page petition filed in a state district court in Dallas, Hillwood Investment Properties III Ltd. asked that a judge place Dallas Basketball Ltd., the team's business management, in receivership and order an independent audit of its operations. Hillwood also is seeking actual and punitive damages.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration. "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package. One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts. "There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't...

DALLAS (Sept. 29) - Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard took a first step toward repairing his damaged reputation Monday, saying he was sorry for disrespecting the national anthem.

Josh Howard's decision-making has again come into question after he was filmed disrespecting the national anthem. And the Mavericks are taking steps to help Howard and their other players avoid controversy in the future. In a video posted on YouTube, the swingman is shown at Allen Iverson's charity flag football game in July. When the national anthem is being sung, various participants are shown mugging for the camera. When the camera gets to Howard, he says: " 'The Star-Spangled Banner' is going on. I don't celebrate this [expletive]. I'm black." Howard goes on to make a difficult-to-discern comment that includes...

I guess Barack Obama doesn’t read Hot Air, nor listens to wisdom from our own Allahpundit. Team O got so flustered by today’s “Original Mavericks” ad that they rushed this new spot out today, apparently before doing some rudimentary fact-checking. Obama argues that the Bridge to Nowhere shows him to be the real Maverick: It’s true that Palin didn’t start off opposing the bridge, but as Governor she made the decision to kill it. At least she moved in the right direction. Who voted for it in the first place? Not John McCain; he derided it on the Senate floor,...

The Obama campaign is issuing a response TV ad to McCain's "Mavericks" ad released this morning. (Linked to in previous post.) Want evidence the Obama campaign is worried about Gov. Sarah Palin? Look no further than this ad, which attacks her, too. Here's the script Obama VO: I’m Barack Obama and I approved this message. ANNOUNCER: They call themselves mavericks. Whoa. Truth is…they’re anything but. John McCain is hardly a maverick…when 7 of his top campaign advisors are Washington lobbyists. He’s no maverick when he votes with Bush 90% of the time. ANNCR: And Sarah Palin’s no maverick either. She...

For John McCain and Sarah Palin, it was "mission accomplished" at last week's Republican National Convention. The GOP senator from Arizona and his surprise running mate, the governor of Alaska, got the party's grassroots activists revved into fighting mode - and sent them out fully charged for battle against the Democrats. But appealing to the true believers in the GOP arena was the easy part. Now comes the reality check for the brutal 60-day campaign sprint against the Democratic ticket of Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Can McCain-Palin sell themselves as the agents of change - and distance themselves...

Despite worsening economic conditions and a news backdrop that supposedly favors Democrats, presumed Republican standard-bearer John McCain remains only 3 points behind rival Barack Obama in the latest IBD/TIPP Poll. But the poll also shows McCain isn't pulling as well as expected from the independents and moderates to whom his "maverick" reputation was thought to appeal. He also has yet to close the sale with his party's conservative base. Compared with the 78% support that McCain has with Republicans in general, conservatives back him by 67%, with 17% still undecided. Obama polls 13% among conservatives. In sharp contrast, liberals favor...

RALEIGH—North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Linda Daves made the following statement: “Contrary to any media reports, the ‘Extreme’ ad will run as scheduled next week. There has never been any intention to pull the ad and it will air. The ‘Extreme’ ad has garnered attention around the country. I want to thank the people across North Carolina and across the country who have shown overwhelming support for us. Our aim is to tell the truth and ask difficult questions. Having regained some force in Pennsylvania, the tornado of insult and innuendo that is the Democratic Party’s nomination fight will now touch down in four more states. But while Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama regroup this week, John McCain is off doing something that, while lacking the same kind of drama, has a significance of its own. Mr. McCain and his advisers decided this week to embark on a tour of some of the places that symbolize the fragility of America’s promise, even if they aren’t the kind of places that Republicans often go: Selma, Ala.; Youngstown, Ohio; New...

More on Redacted Briefings Comments (5) I called the Dallas Mavericks front office today to express my displeasure at Mark Cuban’s funding of Redacted. I started the conversation by saying, “I hope this isn’t the only phone call you’re going to receive like this, but I am a soldier and I never raped nor murdered anyone.” The woman on the other end of the line said, “Why would you blame Mark?” When I responded, “Because he funded the project,” I found myself talking to dead air. My thought is that we should all call, or write and express our displeasure....

Just climbing to the summit of Mount Rainier would be triumph enough for most people. But for Paul Ferguson, the achievement was symbolic of victory over past failed attempts and a life-threatening disease -- and a final goodbye to a beloved dog. It's been a journey for the 42-year-old Mansfield man, a Lockheed Martin engineer, UT-Arlington doctoral student, mountaineering hobbyist and cancer survivor. But let us backtrack and begin with Mount Rainier, an active volcano in Washington state that soars to 14,410 feet. It's a snowcapped postcard mountain for which Seattle and Tacoma residents build their homes so they'll have a view...

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) - Unusually high Pacific waves battered beaches from El Salvador to Mexico and carried people out to sea, prompting authorities in some places to order swimmers out of the water Tuesday. At least two people were killed. Waves topping 10 feet swept away a dozen swimmers near La Libertad on Monday, 10 of whom were plucked from the water by boats and a helicopter, Green Cross emergency worker Jose Larin said. A 35-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were killed. El Salvador's government advised people "to avoid swimming at our beaches due to the risk,"...

If Sen. John McCain seeks the Republican nomination for president in 2008, as expected, he could face stiff competition from another conservative Vietnam vet considered a maverick within the party - Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel. Observers say Hagel could be attractive to many of the centrist Republicans who voted for McCain in the 2000 primaries. Like McCain, Hagel has parted ways with the Bush administration on a number of issues. He's been critical of American troop levels in Iraq and U.S. preparation for the reconstruction of the country. He's spoken out about U.S. policy regarding prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, saying...
