I decided to find out more about the event. In general it seems to have been a long, drawn out affair starting of with a "marathon cocktail hour" (no start time specified. 5 pm perhaps?) with dinner not being served until 10:30 pm, entertainment beginning at 11:30 pm and the...

No, this is not relatable to the rest of the country, or even to those who operate just beyond the privileged confines of a crowded white tent on the South Lawn. But the human impulse to gather — particularly after the worst part of a lengthy pandemic — is universal. Officials who planned the event said the need for Mr. Biden and Mr. Macron to project a united front against the Russian invasion of Ukraine was urgent. “The magnificence of American soft power was on full display,” Mr. Gifford said. “These personal relationships are such the crux of American foreign...

But when it came time to shake Macron’s hand, the president awkwardly gripped it and held it firmly for 42 seconds as the French leader stood awkwardly near the podium. “The temperature may be a little chilly on this December night – day, but our hearts are warm as we welcome such close friends to the White House,” Biden said during the arrival ceremony outdoors at the White House.

Armenia has asked the French president, Emmanuel Macron, to chair peace talks with Azerbaijan in a fresh challenge to Vladimir Putin’s increasingly loose grip on Russia’s regional allies in the wake of the war in Ukraine. The snub from a traditional ally to Putin, who had hosted an inconsequential meeting of the warring countries’ leaders last month, comes immediately on the back of his disastrous summit with six former Soviet states. During a “family” photograph of leaders of countries in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) in Yerevan on Wednesday, Armenia’s prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan, stepped away from Putin, who...

Giorgia Meloni has become a bit of a cult figure in world politics since her right-wing coalition was swept into power back in the summer of 2022, much to the shock of many. Videos of her speaking about identity, illegal immigration, and transgenderism have gone viral, showing a woman who isn’t afraid to get in the ring and speak her mind. She may have done her best work in a recently unearthed, viral clip – thought to be from 2019 – where she absolutely eviscerated France’s Emmanuel Marcon, who’s previously taken jabs at Meloni. Watch the whole thing because it’s...

A major fibre optic cable has been cut near Aix-en-Provence, France, causing a global internet connectivity slowdown, reports cybersecurity company Zscaler. Connectivity was especially disrupted on internet cable between Marseille-Lyon, Marseille-Milan, and Marseille-Barcelona. French President Emmanuel Macron’s party lost its parliamentary majority Sunday, as factions to his left and right both made significant gains. France held the second round of voting for its legislative elections Sunday, nearly two months after voters reelected Macron in April. Macron, who defeated National Rally candidate Marine Le Pen in a rematch of the 2017 election, won a comfortable 17-point victory – but fell short of the 32-point landslide he enjoyed five years earlier. In her concession speech, Le Pen claimed that her improved showing in the 2022 election marked a victory for the French nationalist movement, and...
