Good evening fellow Freepers. It's time for me to ask another in the long line of IT related questions, this time about suggestions for a new router for my home network. Currently I have a Netgear WNR3500Lv2 router. It's a combo wired and wireless router. It is hooked up to a DLink Modem, Model DCM-301. However, last month lightning struck right behind my place and it killed one of the ethernet ports on the router. Thank God the entire thing wasn't fried. But now I need to replace it, and I'd like to find something of a similar build in...

I don't know if this has been talked about here on FR (I assume it has but I couldn't find a thread on it) but I have been trying to get file sharing to work between Windows XP and Vista. I got all the correct network protocols installed on my XP computer but I couldn't get it to see the lone Vista computer on the network. Before you ask, my son has to run Vista because of network requirements at Purdue University. When he brings his computer home it messes up the entire network since I'm running XP on all...

Ok, let me get a couple critical things out of the way first. Yes, I am logged in. Never met a moose. I don't have a sister. I do like cheese. I am not running CP/M. I have Googled this. I'm pretty sure it's Bush's fault. I hope I got everything out of the way, but I'm sure if I didn't, it will be pointed out in a bold, 24 point font. Yesterday, I had two machines, one running XP Home, one running Win2k. After fixing a friend of mine's computer (why is it that the only time women ever...

I have a technical question regarding home networking, a problem actually. I have a cable modem (Time Warner Cable), a Siemens wireless router and two computers (soon to be three) as a home network. My problem is this:My computer will drop access to the WAN (Time Warner) after 12 hours (to the second) of connect time. If I try ipconfig/release/renew (I mean correctly) I receive an error message that the DHCP server is unreachable. I have to turn off the router and cable modem for ~60 secs (but not the computer) then let them reboot to start another 12 hour...
