After the dreadful atrocity in Madrid several weeks ago, some thousands of people, most of them Spanish, came to Westminster Cathedral. After our Mass many hundreds, most of them young, remained in the Piazza outside. The emotion was palpable and moving - a mixture of confusion, anger and a need to be together. At one point amid the hubbub someone appealed, "Let us be silent" and the whole of the Piazza became still.
