At least 35 Palestinians were killed Sunday in an Israeli strike on a tent encampment, Gaza health officials said, that the Israeli military claims targeted two senior Hamas officials. The strike targeted a humanitarian zone in Rafah which the Israeli military previously instructed displaced Palestinians to shelter from attacks, the Gaza Health Ministry said. The ministry said most of the 35 dead were women and children, and that the death toll is likely to rise as “countless” are trapped in rubble. The attack comes just days after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to stop its operations in...

The Rafah crossing to Egypt was opened for the first time on Wednesday since the devastating Hamas attack on October 7, allowing dozens of foreign passport holders and injured people trapped in Gaza to leave the Strip. While convoys of much-needed aid have been moving between Egypt and Gaza, people had not been allowed to cross until now. This development is expected to enable around 400 foreigners and dual nationals to depart from Gaza today.

The Palestinian Islamist movement in the Gaza Strip, Hamas, has intensified its efforts to achieve the destruction of Israel. Hamas has obviously interpreted these two decisions -- by the EU court (to remove Hamas from the list of terror organizations) and the International Criminal Court -- as a green light to proceed with its plans to eliminate Israel. The main goal of Hamas's "Liberation Army" is, of course, to prepare for war against Israel, according to Hamas spokesman, Mushir al-Masri. "The main purpose of these training camps is to prepare an army for the liberation of Palestine and its holy...

Prime Minister Netanyahu's Remarks 26 June 2011 Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser June 25th, 2011, was the fifth anniversary of Gilad ShalitÂ’s Abduction. He is being held by a brutal enemy, Hamas, which refuses to uphold either the minimal demands of the international treaties or humanitarian conditions. It has refused to allow him even one visit by the International Committee of the Red Cross. It is holding him in harsh conditions and we know how his family is suffering. I think that the entire nation and all fair and just people in the world are incensed at what...

Although the Israeli air force bombed the Phildelphi corridor along the border thousands of times during the course of the Cast Lead campaign, smugglers acknowledge that some tunnels running under the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip have remained in use, and were in operation even during the fighting. Contrary to media reports, the Israeli air force apparently did not use more powerful bunker-busting bombs to destroy the tunnels, rather than regular explosives. Tunnels lined with wood reinforcement have been especially resistant to air force bombing raids. Smugglers manage to transfer merchandise, drugs and weapons through tunnels dug under...
