Al Gore’s self-imposed exile from politics will extend to this week’s Democratic National Convention. Citing “obligations in Tennessee,” the former vice president’s spokeswoman told POLITICO that Gore plans to skip the festivities in Philadelphia where his former boss’s wife will accept the Democratic presidential nomination. The Tennessean first reported Gore's decision earlier Sunday. Gore remains one of the last Democratic Party luminaries not to make a formal endorsement of Hillary Clinton. Betsy McManus, Gore’s communications director, told POLITICO last fall that he’d wait until a nominee had been formally selected to weigh in. But it’s been more than a month...

A one-time high-ranking political adviser to Al Gore tells ABC News that a group of friends and former aides are having a “soft conversation” about the possibility that Gore run for president in 2016. The adviser cautions that there have been no formal or even informal moves by Gore himself -– but that the former vice president has not ruled out anything. This was first reported by BuzzFeed

It’s time to draft Al Gore: If Democrats want to win, it’s clear neither Hillary nor Sanders is the way The presidential election is still sixteen months away, but this much is clear: Hillary Clinton is a vulnerable candidate. Since announcing her candidacy in April, Clinton’s stature has steadily slipped. Things got even worse this week. We learned, first, that Bernie Sanders eclipsed Clinton in small, individual donations, which is an indicator of popular support among likely voters. Second, and more problematic, the newest AP poll revealed significant weaknesses among Democrats on a host of issues, including trust, character, and...

Sure, he’s a bit of an eccentric. He ran for the White House as a sitting vice president and lost. His finances are complex, his cable news venture failed, and his storybook marriage ended in divorce long ago. But he’s a single-issue candidate, and it just happens to be an issue that appeals to progressives perhaps more than any other. What’s more, the Draft Al Gore movement had some influential backers in the progressive community. “Gore cares enough about what comes next that he literally titled his last book The Future,” wrote Vox.com founder Ezra Klein. “But if he is...

How's this for some political arithmetic: Take a shallower-than-usual Democratic bench for 2016, hypothetically devalue a leading candidate due to an e-mail scandal, then toss in a retro candidate who lost one of the most controversial elections in history and you have the darkest of dark horse possibilities: Al Gore for president. The former vice president and 2000 Democratic presidential nominee is headed to Iowa in May for a climate change event, and these days, that's all it takes to fuel speculation that he may be considering another presidential run. At least, according to Ezra Klein, formerly of The Washington...

As we speculate about the next election, a fun thing for us Cowboys fans to do on a "bye weekend" is to speculate that 2016 could be the perfect campaign to revive former VP Al Gore. Let's start by saying that Mr. Gore is the perfect alternative to Hillary Clinton. He is liked by the left and can claim to have "won" an election. Furthermore, I think that a lot of the left knows that Senator Warren is charming but unelectable. There is also a real vacuum in the Democrats' bench. Who else is out there? Gov. Brown of California?...

If you think Washington is scary now, consider this: Al Gore is not ruling out a 2016 run for president. Al Gore 2000 was awful, proving himself willing to divide the country and put it through hell during his attempt to sue his way into the White House. Al Gore 2016 would be many times worse. He would be a single-issue president, and that issue would be the total destruction of the economy in the name of the debunked global warming hoax.
