SACRAMENTO (AP) - Dr. Philip Pizzo, dean of Stanford University's medical school, on Friday became the first appointee to a board that will oversee a new stem cell research agency approved by California voters. Proposition 71, which passed 59 percent to 41 percent Tuesday, will have the state borrow $3 billion to fund stem cell research. It establishes the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, which will be managed by a 29-member board to be appointed over the next month.
