.....Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who chaired the hearing of the antitrust, competition policy and consumer rights subcommittee, said the BCS bowl “regime” is best described as a violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act--a law aimed at protecting against monopolies and business arrangements that stifle competition.........

Overall, the Obama Administration is now up to 2.38 million jobs below where they should be to create 3.675 million jobs by the end of 2010. The only sectors that created jobs in April (government and education/health) are also the only two sectors that are keeping pace with the number of jobs they need to create.

****NEWSALERT****NC voters threw away 92,000 votes for President in 2004 because of a confusing law. "The offices of President and Vice President of the United States are not included in a Straight Party vote. This contest must be voted separately." NC is the only state in the US where straight ticket voting does not count for President.

As Ace puts it, "More of this. More of this. Nothing but this for the next 32 days. The election hangs on this single issue. The public believes Republicans caused this disaster, and we'll lose based on that misperception. The Democrats actually caused it -- but Republicans, beginning at the top off the ticket, are inexplicably shy about saying so. MORE OF THIS. MORE OF THIS." --Be patient, video takes a few to load.

Once they explain the thesis, it's so blinding obvious that one wonders why that sort of thinking hasn't gotten top billing sooner. When asset prices rise (say because interest rates fall), the balance sheet gains lead directly to increases in a firm's equity. Financial institutions tend to maintain the same level of gearing, so when equity goes up, they want to increase their balance sheet size. Similarly, when asset prices fall, the losses are hits to equity, and balance sheets contract.

"Conservative Republican members of the House of Representatives have offered a “free-market alternative” to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson’s $700 billion plan to bail out the mortgage industry. Arizona’s John Shadegg talked to National Review Online about the state of negotiations Friday night....Because Secretary Paulson chose to raise the matter in the way he did — that is, to go public in a very high-profile way, not just with his concern, but with a kind of Chicken-Little, the-sky-is-falling kind of demand — it became a self-fulfilling prophecy....."

Just wondering if anyone else smells a link b/w Goldman Sachs and the many people pushing this $700 billion dollar TAXPAYER bailout. Buffett offers his dire warnings re:the market and this bailout... but he just invested $5 billion into Goldman Sachs. It just seems EXTREMELY interesting to me that Paulson was the former CEO over at Goldman, the memo forwarded to Obama's team, regarding the House's Republican plan, before the meeting at the WH on Thursday afternoon came from a "reliable" sourse over at Goldman, Jim Johnson is on the board over at Goldman, Buffett is an advisor to the...

"...Two officials of the Bush administration say that if Obama had done what the Post story asserted – which they believe to be untrue – U.S. Ambassador Crocker and embassy officials attending the meeting would have ensured that the Bush administration heard about it immediately. If such an incident occurred in front of officials of the Bush administration, it would have constituted a foreign policy breach and would have been front-page huge news; it would not have leaked out two months later in an op-ed column..."

I try not to talk politics much on this blog. Mainly because so many people do it so much better than I ever could. I don’t have that particular gift. But I suppose in recent weeks, it’s become obvious which ticket I’m voting for this year.
