While I understand the meaning of "Uncle Tom" as some sort of insult, I can't help but notice that those who use the term obviously have no familiarity with the actual character from the novel.
Every time I start to get really fed up with our current president, Carter comes out of his hole and puts everything back into perspective. Thanks, Jimmah!
I didn’t come up with it, it’s just a popular saying in the sci-fi community. I’d personally find it very difficult to narrow it down to just three sci-fi “gods.” In addition to those mentioned already, I also love Philip K. Dick, Orson Scott Card and so many others.
He was one of the three gods of science fiction. Childhood's End is a great book, and of course there's 2001, the movie version of which is firmly entrenched in the public consciousness. He'll be missed.
Been a rough month for us nerds. First Cygax, now Clarke...
“If nature is left to its own devices?” Haha, like there’s anything that could possibly be done to prevent this from happening. All stars die. The sun is no exception.
I do not expect the Earth to last 7.5 billion years anyway. It’ll either be destroyed, or just become completely uninhabitable by that time. If humanity still exists, they’ll have moved on to other worlds.
Hmm. I’ve seen Naruto, and there are definitely characters known as sand ninja that control sand. However, I have no idea how burying your own head in sand could have anything to do with it. That’s something this kid must have come up with on his own, and NOT taken from any scene in Naruto... Assuming the story being reported is even true, anyway. The whole Naruto angle might just be a red herring.
