This thread is about medicinal marijuana and not about people sititng around in a commune smoking dope and getting stoned.

If it is found that MM helps alleviate patients symptoms and ailments why shouldn't they be allowed to use it. The arguement has been that it is because it is illegal and addicting. The counter-arguement presented here is that it is less addicting than cigarettes and almost ALL the drugs prescribed by the doctors that the patients would need to take in it's stead. The problem is that the drug companies won't be able to patent MM and there goes the profits that they would have gotten on it and are currently getting for the drugs being used instead of MM.

As to the illegal part...what makes it illegal? The governement's decree does but remember at one time alcohol was illegal.

Why do we as a country keep spending money on something that doesn't work?

IMHO, cigarettes are more harmful and addicting than marijuana. Why are cigarettes legal?

Grow and sell the product here. Tax it when it's sold. We put people to work, farmers have a viable cash crop, government gets the tax money.

That's why it should be legalized--so it can be taxed. Let's make money on it legally instead of siphoning the money to other countries. There is a demand for it so why shouldn't the government get involved?

I think marijuana should be legalized...what a way for the government to make more money. Seriously though, it is a leaf from a plant like tobacco is, so why is one legal and the other not?

They already are in the medical field...to create rats/mice that will more closely resemble humans which can then be used for drug tests. Mixing human DNA with pigs to help with transplant issues. I even read an article which had a picture of a rat with a human ear growing out of it's back. There was also an article recently discussing the possiblility of creating Chimeras.

If I remember correctly it has also been discovered in some of Europe now as well. It will only be a matter of time before it hits the US.
