Two weeks ago I had finally done the “impossible”. I deactivated. Cut the ties. I was even able to pass the “guilt” message. “Are you sure you want to deactivate? Your friends will no longer be able to blah, blah, blah.” There it was, Facebook Freedom. I had my life back. Over the next few days I would start my daily routine. Checking email. Bank accounts. Investments. Drudge. RSS feeds. But then...nothing. All of a sudden I had all this extra time on my hands. It got me thinking about what I had accomplished in all that time I had...

~excerpt~ Some say we need to push full steam ahead, that the policies in place just need more time. Some say we need to get back to Capitalism. Some say back to the Constitution. Still others say back to the basics of a Republic…those ideals that the Founders had for securing individual freedom. U.S. Congressman Ron Paul’s farewell speech pointed out some interesting observations about freedom and liberty that I hope you take a look at. Rush Limbaugh discussed this on his show today and agreed with Rep. Paul, but added that the key is that this is not a...

The Most Important People In This Election…or Not Obama, Romney…Liberalism, Conservatism…Democrat, Republican…Pro-Choice, Pro-Life…Big Government, Small Government…Small Military, Huge Military…Keynesian Economics, Capitalism…Pro-Union, Pro-Business…you get the idea. There could NOT be any more stark difference in choices this election. Many have voice their choice in the polls…47% to 47% (+/- 2). So that leads me to a very interesting question. Who are these 4-6 percent called “The Undecided”? Better yet, what make up of mindset does one have to actually have to NOT be able to form a choice? How many Liberal, Pro-Life, Big Government, Huge Military, Pro-Business, Keynesian Economic Republicans can...

There is indeed a war going on in Afghanistan. In fact, there are two. One is being fought with bullets, bombs, and boots on the ground. The other war (the one with more lasting importance) is being fought in an entirely different theater. In this other war, the real enemy of the Afghan people is sin and darkness. Perhaps the most vile expression of this is their treatment of women and boys. A recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle (of all places) exposes the fact that Afghanistan is a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah. This strict Muslim country has “become...

Question Of the Month: What do you think of a Christian being employed by The Youth Ministry of the State Church of Secular Humanism as a teacher? A Loaded, but Important Question I often receive ‘loaded’ questions, but this one wins the prize. It is obvious that the reader not only has an opinion on the issue; it is also clear what that opinion is. Nevertheless, the question (in it’s less ‘loaded’ form) is one I receive frequently. I have chosen to answer this one, because it’s phrasing will help me get straight to the point. I have made no...

Question Of the Month: A few weeks ago, I went and bought my oldest 2 daughters (aged 17 and 15) a lovely new Bible each, complete with a bookmark. And after the evening meal on the Sunday I quietly announced that we were going to read and discuss the Bible together as a family. The reaction of my oldest daughter, 16 was, shall we say.... vigorous! She nearly hit the roof!!! We were ramming religion down her throat. She even accused of child abuse! Needless to say, she didn't say thank you for the Bible. Nobody else I know does...

YRC Teamsters in Chicago Vote Down Wage Cuts a Third Time by Jane Slaughter / December 9, 2009 Despite pressure from Teamsters officials and YRC management, Chicago dock workers rejected a $1.16 per hour wage cut for a third time yesterday. City drivers voted no for the second time. Teamster officials had told workers that floundering YRC, which employs 40,000 other Teamster drivers and dock workers nationwide, would go out of business if 1,500 Chicago workers did not accept the wage cut Teamsters voted up nationally last summer. But many members, as well as industry analysts, believe YRC is doomed...

Citizens for a Public Option Dear Friend, Moments ago, the Senate voted to begin its full debate on historic health care reform legislation instead of obstructing it with a filibuster. Tonight's vote marks the biggest victory to date for our grassroots effort to pass health care reform with a public option. We cannot give enough thanks to the over 100,000 signers of our petition at CitizensForAPublicOption.com for helping to fundamentally shift the momentum towards meaningful reform. Not long ago, a few loud opponents of reform armed and organized by the insurance industry dominated this debate. Now the American people, the...

Question Of the Month: What are practical ways to involve and teach your preschoolers during your family devotional times (ie: morning pray/read/sing) A Word of Warning First, let me say that I do not believe in ‘dumbing down’ family worship (or the worship of the church for that matter) for small children. We aim our family worship at Mom, Dad, and our older children (nineteen and sixteen), while recognizing the need to bring the younger children (five, two, one, and newborn) along. Our philosophy is simple; our younger children do not need to be entertained, they need to be taught....

Because of caring people and a caring company, a terminally ill little Green Forest girl was flown home Friday by air ambulance from M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, so she can spend her last days surrounded by the people who love her most. Jada Harper, who turned seven on Sept. 1, has an inoperable malignant tumor in her brain and is in a coma with a ventilator doing her breathing for her. She has been at the famous cancer center in Houston since July, but her situation is now at the point not much else can be done...

A Sickening Healthcare Call! Thursday, August 20, 2009 As the debate about healthcare rages, religious “leaders” are weighing in. In a recent teleconference, pastors from around the country gathered to discuss the issue with the White House (and record it for later non-partisan use). As I listened to the call, I had to fight to keep from hitting the stop button. The call began with a prayer led by a female pastor from Georgia (one of several female ministers, deacons and church leaders in what was an obvious nod to feminists, and the theological and political left) then descended into...

The Yellow Prison Bus and the Future of American Healthcare Wednesday, August 26, 2009 Conservatives are up-in-arms over the Democratic healthcare scheme. From town hall meetings, to talk radio, to the internet, the voice of the people is being heard. However, I am not at all convinced that the voice of the people will ultimately make a difference in the long run. My pessimism has less to do with the sinister motives of those seeking to take over the healthcare system. On the contrary, my pessimism stems from the hypocrisy of those shouting down their representatives and claiming to be...

Thousands Head To Springfield To Fight Budget Cuts State Lawmakers Must Plug Budget Hole Of More Than $9 Million SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CBS) - Thousands of people boarded board buses and trains for Springfield to protest possible budget cuts at a special legislative session that starts Tuesday. State lawmakers must plug a budget hole of more than $9 billion. Some organizers affected could see their funding cut in half, while others could see their state money eliminated altogether. Gov. Pat Quinn wants to save the programs that help people by raising the state income tax. But lawmakers are hesitant to go...

There is outrage over the state budget crisis. Thousands vented their pain and anger at a rally downtown Thursday. Chanting people first not politics, they supported a state income tax hike instead of doomsday cuts. Vital services for kids, seniors, the disabled and the homeless are about to be cut in half. Their backers want to send a message to lawmakers in Springfield. "Work it out or there's a mood now developing in the state where you won't be there in the next election," said Chuck Nilles, Community Support Services. "Change is now." That's the big picture, but the impact...

MEDIA ADVISORY, June 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- This week, a letter is being hand-delivered to every member of the United States Senate imploring conservatives to join Senator Jim DeMint's filibuster of the pending Hate Crimes bill, which would criminalize preaching the Gospel and put preachers in the crosshairs. The letter explains that, in its current form, the Hate Crimes legislation would: "Silence the moral voice of the Church" -- "Punish principled dissent from the homosexual agenda" -- "Be a savage and perhaps fatal blow to First Amendment freedom of expression" -- and "Empower the left and encourage it to move...

CHICAGO (CBS) ― The Chicago White Sox announced Sunday evening it has canceled Monday's season opener against the Kansas City Royals because of inclement weather. The White Sox postponed Monday's 1:05 p.m. game because of forecasted snow, cold and high winds, according to a release from the team. The game is rescheduled for 1:05 p.m. Tuesday. All opening day festivities will still take place Tuesday, the release said. One can see why the event was cancelled. It's really coming down at U.S. Cellular Field Sunday night. And the gloomy, cold weather is dampening the spirits of a lot of White...

U.S. To Help Rebuild City Of Babylon In Iraq By Joel C. Rosenberg Largely overlooked by the Western news media over the past few weeks was an enormously significant story. The government of Iraq is moving forward with plans to protect the archaeological remains of the ancient City of Babylon, in preparation for building a modern city of Babylon. The project, originally started by the late Saddam Hussein, is aimed eventually at attracting scores of "cultural tourists" from all over the world to see the glories of Mesopotamia's most famous city. What's more, the Obama Administration is contributing $700,000 towards...
