Why Joe Walsh Might Win the 8th By Edward McClelland |  Friday, Oct 12, 2012  |  Updated 4:07 PM CDT It ispossible that Rep. Joe Walsh, Tea Party-Ill., will hold on to his seat. A poll conducted this week by We Ask America has him leading challenger Tammy Duckworth, 47.8 percent to 45.1 percent. (The previous poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling in late September, had Duckworth ahead, 52-38.) This is not supposed to happen. House Speaker Michael Madigan drew this seat not just for a Democrat, but specifically for Duckworth. One of the reasons Duckworth lost to Peter Roskam...

So ever since Rush was talking about the debates last night and calling the VP "Joey" I have had that song by Concrete Blonde running through my head and as I thought about it (can't get it out of my head) I thought it might make a rather humorous song ala Shanklin, so I thought I'd mention it here and see what the group could come up with, sure someone has the talent for a good one.

So here we are old friends, What can I say, its been a while and I have noticed a few disturbing things around my favorite haunting ground, it seams we have some conspiracy theorists hanging about and that disturbs me, can we really not admit that Obama's birth certificate is a dead issue, are we going to become some stupid 911 truther group, is that what you want? As for a Romney Presidency, l agree it is absolutely not the ideal, but who have we got that can win, do you hope or do you get the best candidates you...

Well it has been a while since I have commented on this board, I hate just repeating what others have said, and this might still be the case, but I will go ahead and lay out my case. First we have no true idea what this "conflict" is about, heck we're calling it everything except a war. Our generals have no clue who is in charge, much less what the mission is. We have differing politicians saying differing opinions on what the strategy is and what the goals are, and our leader, I say this with no hesitation, because he...

St. Clair County Clerk Bob Delaney said that he could not mail the ballots due to questions on whether two Constitutional Party members would be allowed on the ballot: http://www.pantagraph.com/news/state-and-regional/illinois/article_640ff69c-d727-11df-80af-001cc4c002e0.html St. Clair County Clerk Bob Delaney said 1,297 overseas military ballots — many of them connected with Scott Air Force Base — didn’t get sent out until Oct. 4, primarily because he was waiting for a decision on whether the Constitution Party would be allowed on the ballot. After a little research I found an article from July 1st 2010 that states: http://www.ksdk.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=205469 Two people who filed petitions to run...

Feds looking at Illinois' military ballots SPRINGFIELD — State election regulators are trying to determine how many Illinois counties complied with federal voting laws regarding overseas military voting. At the request of the U.S. Justice Department, the Illinois State Board of Elections is asking counties to report back on whether they sent out military ballots for the Nov. 2 election by Sept. 18. At least one county, with a large portion of military ballots, acknowledges missing the deadline. St. Clair County Clerk Bob Delaney said 1,297 overseas military ballots — many of them connected with Scott Air Force Base —...

We called both Debbie Halvorson’s office (202-225-3635) and Dick Durbin’s office (212-224-2152) and mysteriously neither one new about military ballots not being mailed, funny, for what I would generally consider the most news worthy event in IL and they don’t know about it, maybe some more of you should call, just to make sure they know about it now. Heads up they will ask you where you herd about it so I have an article or website ready.

Pueblo Politics: Republican pollsters say CD7 race is tight Two new polls, both done by Republican-leaning organizations show, Republican Ruth McClung and Democrat U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva are neck-and-neck in the race for Arizona’s Congressional District 7. Both polls indicate Republican McClung is within the margin of error of the Democrat. In a Magellan Data and Mapping Strategies poll conducted in the last week of September, 40 percent of poll respondents said they would vote for Grijalva and 38 percent said they would vote for McClung.  Another 5 percent said they’d vote for independent candidate Harley Meyer, 4 percent...

Senator Hutchison cool to SpaceX's Falcon 9 launch; concerns remain about Obama NASA policy June 5, 8:25 AMHouston Space News ExaminerMark Whittington Falcon 9 Courtesy NASA The near universal acclaim that SpaceX has acquired for the successful launch of the first Falcon 9 is not shared within the United States Congress, which is still skeptical of many aspects of the Obama space plan, which includes reliance on companies like SpaceX for Earth to Low Earth Orbit transportation. The reaction illustrates for all the technical triumph that SpaceX has accomplished with the Falcon 9 launch, it still faces political problems. Typical...

Breakthrough in industrial-scale nanotube processingRice pioneers method for processing carbon nanotubes in bulk fluidsRice University scientists today unveiled a method for the industrial-scale processing of pure carbon-nanotube fibers that could lead to revolutionary advances in materials science, power distribution and nanoelectronics. The result of a nine-year program, the method builds upon tried-and-true processes that chemical firms have used for decades to produce plastics. The research is available online in the journal Nature Nanotechnology. "Plastics is a $300 billion U.S. industry because of the massive throughput that's possible with fluid processing," said Rice's Matteo Pasquali, a paper co-author and professor in...

Berkeley researchers find new route to nano self-assembly This electron micrograph shows a self-assembled composite in which nanoparticles of lead sulfide have arranged themselves in a hexagonal grid. (Credit: Image courtesy of DOE/Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) If the promise of nanotechnology is to be fulfilled, nanoparticles will have to be able to make something of themselves. An important advance towards this goal has been achieved by researchers with the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) who have found a simple and yet powerfully robust way to induce nanoparticles to assemble themselves into complex arrays.By adding specific...

Marc Boucher Thursday, October 22, 2009 However if NASA had a less-constrained budget with increasing annual expenditures by approximately $3 billion in real purchasing power they could sustain a viable exploration program. The Committee identified the following questions that, if answered, would form the basis of a plan for U.S. human spaceflight: 1. What should be the future of the Space Shuttle? 2. What should be the future of the International Space Station (ISS)? 3. On what should the next heavy-lift launch vehicle be based? 4. How should crews be carried to low-Earth orbit? 5. What is the most...

Last week in explaining why NFL commissioner Roger Goodell needed to put an end to Limbaugh's latest publicity stunt, I attributed racially insensitive quotes to Limbaugh that I read in two Missouri newspapers, saw on CNN and confirmed through a Google search. Prior to posting the article, I never found a denial of these quotes by Limbaugh, and had no reason to believe those statements were not true.
