I installed Vista Ultimate on one of my machines simply because I enjoy monkeying around with Operating Systems.. Cause I’m somewhat of a geek, I guess and I own several machines.
I kept my mission critical stuff on my XP Machine.
I hated it at first but...
I’ve not had a major crash or seen a single Blue Screen of Death on the Vista Machine since I installed.
Vista does require a fairly beefy system to run well but memory, hard drives, vid cards etc. are dirt cheap these days (compared to even just 1 or 2 years ago..) unless you’re one of those guys that has to have the bleeding edge tech, no matter the cost.
With a little know how and a number of tweaks, it runs quite smoothly for me on games and pretty much any app I’ve thrown at it with just a few exceptions similar to the ones I experienced on when going from Windows 3.1 to W95 to W98 and yes, WinXP. The transition to Win 95 was horrendous - the worst of the bunch.
Vista *is* improving, perhaps slower than most would like (including myself) and I’m liking it a lot more now.
I’ve already put it on my laptop and when things improve enough to risk it, I’ll put it on my main machine as well.
Ok, you may commence calling me an MS FanBoy now...
Now I’m going to play some more EVE Online and using my Vista machine, I will blast the crap out of some space pirates.
