• NYC Mayor Eric Adams Aiming to Resettle Immigrants Across US

03/09/2023 6:20:15 AM PST · by stremba · 23 replies
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is planning to resettle immigrants across the United States. Adams, a Democrat, unveiled his plans in a policy briefing released Tuesday titled "The Road Forward: A Blueprint to Address New York City’s Response to the Asylum Seeker Crisis." In his preface, Adams implicitly admits the overwhelming nature of the crisis, saying the city is unable to solve the "asylum seeker crisis" on its own. The move comes after a large wave of immigrants, sent by bus from red states, has left the city struggling to cope. Adams admitted it himself.
• Pennsylvania primary - please vote to reign in Wolf’s power

This year’s ballot questions include two specific referendums that address how future state of emergencies will be handled in Pennsylvania. They come on the heels of Republican criticism of stay-at-home and business closure orders implemented by Gov. Tom Wolf during the coronavirus pandemic. One question asks voters to amend the state constitution to limit all state of emergencies issued by a governor to 21 days. A second referendum seeks to give the state’s General Assembly authority to extend or terminate a governor’s initial order.
• Analysis of growth rates of Covid 19 cases in the US (Vanity)

Please be nice; this is my first vanity. I did this just out of curiosity because it’s not something I have seen elsewhere. All data is from https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ I was interested in the growth rate of new Covid 19 cases and have been monitoring the link above. I noticed a large spike in cases yesterday along with a relatively small number the previous day. It occurred to me that daily growth rates are too noisy to really matter, but a longer term average might be a better way to look at it. I started my data analysis with the 3/7...
• Is Hillary completely tanking among Independents (Vanity)

I have never done a vanity before, but I think this is important. This is regarding the 10/15-10/18 IPSOS poll. This poll was notable for it's very unbalanced sample - +18% Dems, but there's something wrong with the numbers themselves in the poll, which I will demonstrate below. The poll had 1,032 respondants. They broke down as 434 Democrats, 346 Independents, and 252 Republicans. Hillary's overall support was reported as 42%. This implies a total of 433 respondants supported Hillary. Going deeper into the party breakdown, the poll reopts Hillary's support as 83% among Democrats, 32% among Independents, and 3%...
• City Distress Could Lead to Commuter Tax

Pittsburgh's financial recovery plan could include a so-called commuter tax on people who work in the city but live somewhere else, if the city files for bankruptcy-type protection under state law as the mayor suggested last week, a state official said Monday.

• Forget the Fads-The Old Way Works Best

My Turn: Forget the Fads—The Old Way Works Best What will fix public education? A teacher, a chalkboard and a roomful of willing students I’ve never claimed to have psychic powers, but I did predict that the $500 million that philanthropist Walter Annenberg poured into various school systems around the country, beginning in 1993, would fail to make any difference in the quality of public education. Regrettably, I was right.
