    They threatened to massacre civilians if the Alliance attacked.

    Those infidel Afghani civilians must be punished for their pro-American/Zionist viewpoints!

    What leaders like George Bush and Tony Blair find ironic is that for all their boasts of seeking martydom, al-Qaeda’s leading figures have spared no cost and energy in ensuring that they survive.

    Guess Jihad isn't for the mucky-mucks...best to leave the sacrificing up to the Islamabot patsies.

    Elaboration on the quote by Omar the Tentmaker, "hopeful for God's help," From The Guardian:

    The current situation in Afghanistan is related to a greater cause - the destruction of America," Mullah Omar claimed.

    Asked to clarify, he went on: "The plan is going ahead and, God willing, it is being implemented. It is a huge task which is beyond the will and comprehension of human beings. If God's help is with us, this will happen within a short period of time: keep in mind this prediction."

    It was not a matter of weapons, he went on, when the questioner asked if he was talking about using nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against the United States. "We are hopeful for God's help and, God willing, America will fall to the ground," he said.

    "...but it is a huge task beyond the will and comprehension of human beings."

    Uh, if it's beyond the will and comprehension of human beings, then how can he know about it? Could be within the will and comprehension of jackasses perhaps, or creepy-crawly thingys that live under rocks...

    We can help the world's poor by giving them a system that works. Economic freedom...

    No one can "give" anyone a system that works.

    The "recipe" for capitalism is much, much more than just establishing free markets, as demonstrated by the Soviet Union and the integration of the East Germans into West Germany. Among other things, capitalism requires:

    1.) a system that recognizes individual rights, (maximizes specialization and efficiency).

    2.) private property rights, (the right to the rewards of one's labor; incentive).

    3.) certain moral values, (i.e. productivity and a work ethic).

    This combination of "ingredients" is not that easy to come by in countries with communist/socialist underpinnings. The West Germans discovered that as a consequence of being slaves of the state, (Marxists), the East Germans had no work ethic, which is also lacking in most Eastern European countries. The Soviets have had problems with all three areas, as do the Arab nations.

    This is a guy who applauds murderous acts and then has the gall to say this. He is insane.

    Certifiably. The likes of Hitler and Hussein. The Taliban absolutely brutalize the Afghan people...rape, beheadings, hangings, mass executions...often forcing the Afghanis to participate in these horrid acts in order to terrorize them into submission.

    For a guy like him to even use the word "good" is profane. He is inhuman.

    Bhutto was instrumental in the Taleban's rise to power...

    =======

    From Time.com:

    "Later in 1994, the Pakistani government of Benazir Bhutto needed help setting up trade routes to Central Asia through unruly Afghanistan. A convoy of Pakistani vehicles was hijacked by an Afghan warlord, and Bhutto sent a minister to ask for the Taliban's help. Omar's men rescued the convoy, opening the door to Pakistani money, arms and military assistance. Now the Taliban could bankroll fighter training, recruit from Pakistan's conservative madrasahs, get weapons and fuel."

    "The Pakistan connection gave the Taliban the muscle to turn its aspirations for law and order into a quest for national power. The students picked up popular support in 1994 when Kandahar fell to the Taliban with barely a shot fired. Local warlords often surrendered as the now amply armed troops marched toward Kabul, some holding Korans to their foreheads."

    According to a friend who works at a Southern California post office, this story is correct. In the version of the story told to me, approximately a week ago, the letters were seen by a clerk in a postal contract station somewhere in Orange County, California. The man with the letters who approached the clerk was "Middle Eastern-looking and acting nervously." Apparently, when the man was told that the letters were unacceptable without a return address, he took the letters and left quickly.

    The FBI was contacted and subsequently, all letters placed in postal collection boxes throughout Southern California were checked one by one, (a very laborious process) before being processed by USPS mail processing centers. They were looking for letters hand-addressed to hospitals, no return address, with Liberty stamps.

    I have not heard what resulted from this search, but I do know that it went on for several days. I don't know why the man took them to a clerk in the first place, as they already had postage on them and could have just been put in a collection box anywhere in the area. You are right, though...the clerk who thought the letters were suspect should have just taken them and then called the FBI.

    "The United States gives itself the right to categorize the people and governments of the world as terrorists and terrorist supporters. It gives itself the right to define terrorism ."

    That's right, we do.

    Nasrallah, bin Laden, Saddam, and the rest of them play the Arabic shell game with the truth. By their statements, they betray their flawed belief that reality is subjective and can be whatever they wish it to be at any point in time. Clearly, they lack any knowledge of Aristotle's Law of Identity.

    =========

    Identity is the concept that refers to this aspect of existence; the aspect of existing as something in particular, with specific characteristics. An entity without an identity cannot exist because it would be nothing. To exist is to exist as something, and that means to exist with a particular identity.

    To have an identity means a single identity; an object cannot have two identities. A tree cannot be a telephone, and a dog cannot be a cat. Each entity exists as something specific, its identity is particular, and it cannot exist as something else. An entity can have more than one characteristic, but any characteristic it has is a part of its identity. A car can be both blue and red, but not at the same time or not in the same respect. Whatever portion is blue cannot be red at the same time, in the same way. Half the car can be red, and the other half blue. But the whole car can't be both red and blue. These two traits, blue and red, each have single, particular identities.

    The concept of identity is important because it makes explicit that reality has a definite nature. Since reality has an identity, it is knowable. Since it exists in a particular way, it has no contradictions.

    ========

    In other words, the Hizbullah are terrorists.

    Residents of Mazar-e-Sharif sacrificed sheep Saturday to celebrate the defeat of the Taliban in their city...

    How could it be otherwise when thousands of Afghani men have been summarily executed, and women raped, by the Taliban. Like Saddam, the Taliban have used brutality and terror to overtake people, and then have to continue use it to maintain control over those who hate them for it.
