I am looking for information about Dizzy Dean. I grew up in Mobile county. When I was a teenager my dad drove me to the Mississippi gulf coast to a small building for Dizzy Dean. It was closed. We later found that he had passed, so it must have been 1974. I’m trying to determine exactly where that office was. It was several hurricanes ago, so it may be gone. Does anyone know anything about that building? Thanks for any help.

  • Looking for reporter's name

I was listening (via Sirius Radio) to Greta Van Susteren a few nights ago around 5:15-5:30 CDT. She was talking about the NCAA and the Northwestern University union decision. Her guest (reporter?) said that he'd played university football. She asked where and he said "Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. Go Bisons!" If you heard the clip, please let me know the guy's name. Thanks

I am writing a novel set in Russia and need some help with airplanes. Does anyone you know the make of any Russian plane that would regularly fly into the coldest regions? I flew into Enta (Komi Republic) one time and landed on skis. (rear loading, about 15-20 pax) It was surreal. And cool, I mean cold! :-) Thanks for any help.
  • Secondary meaning of Russian phrase

Quick question about the phrase: Не имей сто рублей, а имей сто друзей. English: "Don't have a hundred rubles; have a hundrfed friends." The question is: Does this seemingly innocent phrase have a double meaning in Russian? Besides the obvious "have a lot of friends (and be poor)" meaning, Can it also mean - in context, "Better watch your back..."?? I have tried out this phrase with my poor Russian through the years to various Russians and they have not received the phrase well. Maybe it was my awful Russian, I don't know. This all has to do with a...
  • I am looking for the name of a writer (AA)

I am looking for the name of a writer (deceased) who wrote about his personal journey with AA (Alcoholics Anonymous). I think he was from New York and may have been a priest. He only died within the past 5-8 years - I think. He was not anti-AA, but disagreed with many of the teachings such as ALWAYS being an alcoholic. If you know of the writer, please let me know.

I am looking for a scene in one of the Star Trek (Next Generation) episodes. The scene has members of the crew going to the Doctor's (I think - maybe another character) room to look for a strand of hair to use to replicate her DNA. She is not on the ship and something has happened to the transporter. I can't remember all the details. I teach forensic science and want to use this for my class. If you know which episode, please let me know. Thanks for any help.
  • Looking for Info - Kali Oka Road hoax - VANITY

I am looking for information for an article I am working on. In the 1970s in Mobile County, Alabama (where I was raised), there was a weekend where a lady's voice could be heard on a CB radio - perhaps asking for help following an accident. Almost everyone in Saraland was out looking in every ditch for this supposed victim. Turns out to have been a hoax. It actually made the local news. If you know anything about this, please let me know. Thanks for any help.

I am looking for a title of a movie (don't remember date of movie). The main plot involved a man and woman corresponding (letter or internet – don’t remember). When they agree to meet, it is in a train station (I think). To make sure he really loves her – not just for her looks – she sends an older unattractive woman ahead and trails behind her. The older woman is dressed in the attire the younger woman described that she (the young woman) would be wearing. If he makes contact with her (despite her appearances) she will know that...

I spent some time at an old firing range here at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. We went behind the ranges and took some photos of the "art" left behind by soldiers. I think I have some from 1941 or 1942. They are hard to read, but (I think) very interesting. Here's the link to my site with the photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/ptswann/WWIIGraffiti

Handcuffs tip clerk on escapee buying bolt-cutters The Associated Press MAGNOLIA, Ark. — James Cotton looked just like any other Wal-Mart customer buying a bolt cutter at 4:30 in the morning, until the cashier noticed that Cotton was wearing handcuffs. According to police, the clerk took Cotton's money, gave him the bolt cutter, then called officers. Cotton, of Cooper, Texas, was apprehended minutes later and charged with escaping from Haynesville, La., police. The Wal-Mart workers said that, after buying the bolt cutter Saturday morning, Cotton went into a bathroom and came out free of the handcuffs. Magnolia police arrived and...

I have recently been approved as an officer in the Army Reserve JAG corps. (I'm waiting to be sworn in). The response I have received from friends has been interesting. Some have congratulated me. Because I am 40, a few have questioned my sanity and some have asked why I am doing this especially when we are [perhaps] so close to war. My response is that 9-11-01 influenced me greatly. I know that being a reservist may make little change, but my attitude is, "If I don't do something, who will." Perhaps that is melodramatic, but that is what I...
  • Dead doe in McDonald's creates novel whodunit

EL DORADO -- McDonald's restaurant workers found a dead deer under a sink in the men's bathroom, and police are trying to figure out how it got there.    The doe was on its back when found Sunday morning. Employees called officers about three hours after the restaurant opened.    Manager Jeff Moss told police he didn't know who brought the deer into the restaurant and said he couldn't figure out how someone got the deer inside without someone noticing. He also said surveillance video cameras didn't record the incident. Police took the video tape, which shows the front ...
  • Looking for a 1970's Short Film

    09/03/2001 8:09:14 AM PDT · by Sokol · 2+ views
Can anyone help me locate a short film made in the 1970's? It aired on either HBO or ShowTime. It lasted three to five minutes and was entitled either "The Interpreter" or "The Translator". It involved a "translator" mis-translating the dialogue of an American and a Russian during their political negations. I would like this for my speech communication class at a local university. If you remember the film, please let me know. Thanks!

Pardon of Pope Explained, Putin Input Denied Obshchaya GazetaDecember 21, 2000 [translation for personal use only] Article by Anatoliy Pristavkin, chairman of RF President's Commission on Pardons: "We Pardoned Edmond Pope Unanimously" Was there an understanding with Vladimir Putin? I admit that, being accustomed to Russians in their letters mainly demanding tougher punishment, it was a surprise to discover suddenly that our population could be compassionate. I am referring to the trial of the U.S. citizen Edmond Pope, accused of espionage, which we were able to watch, to a greater or lesser degree, on the television news. I have a ...
