They’re attacking each other because they’re both alpha dogs who want to win. I’m happy they’re #1/#2 instead of GOPe for a change. That’s a blessing. May the best man win, but I’m not going to be sick of either of them because they’re leading us out of the abyss.

This is the way savvy businessmen get out of bad deals. Unfortunately you can’t just up and not honor international agreements once signed without serious reputational repercussions globally (not just among our enemies), but what you can do is watch their every move and call them out on committing a breach of the agreement as grounds for termination. Then it’s on them, not us.

No agreement is ever followed to the letter, and that’s how Fortune 500 companies do it when there’s a bad deal - like Trump said, they police/audit the heck out of a contract and when a breach inevitably occurs, they pounce and end it.

    Brilliant stuff.

Perhaps Fiorina’s progressive bent is why she ran HP into the ground as CEO.

    Consider this hypothetical -

Say you end up with Yeb! as the nominee because the GOPe has stacked the process in their favor. Trump can either take his billions and go home when folks have been disenfranchised, or he can singlehandedly offer a viable option. What would you prefer Trump to do?

Regardless of that, ex ante, wouldn’t you want Trump to threaten GOPe with a dead man’s trigger so that they don’t pull any funny business (well, more than they already have) over the coming months?

This is a brilliant negotiation tactic, especially when he’s trying to represent a silent majority against GOPe and uni-party forces. The ONLY leverage he has to make sure they give him and primary voters a fair opportunity for their support to be heard (i.e, not locking him out of debates, giving him access to the voter databases that all other Republican candidates get) is this dead man’s trigger, so to speak. He holds all the cards and can ensure that no GOP nominee wins the presidency, and he’s rightly using it to make sure he gets a fair fight.

Without this leverage, you’d better believe GOPe would find a way to stifle his chances.

Weather station a few blocks away was recording 87 degrees with a 76 dewpoint (70% humidity) (i.e., stifling, tropical-like heat) when he walked into that church. Was still 85 degrees when he walked out. That’s not sweater weather by any stretch of the imagination.

  • Franklin Graham: 'I am trying to warn America, warn Duke University'

As an alumnus of Duke who donates generously every year, they wouldn’t see another dime from me if they had gone through with this. My experience at Duke (I attended graduate school there) was not just revelatory from an academic/professional standpoint, but the reason I hold my time there in such high esteem was that the place was grounded in the Methodist faith. Having that grand cathedral at the center of campus with a large and healthy congregation with sermons that weren’t watered down from Protestant tradition - that was an important part of my experience there and helped fill me out to be the man I am today. Every time I return to campus and walk by that cathedral, it re-centers me and reminds me who I am.

Having Muslim chants ringing out from that tower would’ve tainted and sullied the CHRISTIAN symbol that it rightly serves as. I’d never view the place in the same way again. Simply put, it’d never feel holy to me again. Is it too much to ask for us to have such things? Lord knows the followers of Islam don’t spare us an inch “over there.” But I guess it’s okay when you come to our home, and underlying it is a larger objective to stamp us out in any way possible.

Yeah, repainted and with certain tweaks to make it basically a flying bullseye.

The fresh coat of paint itself could be the radar-absorbent variety.

If the hijacker flew the plane up to 45,000 feet and then depressurized the cabin manually (which you can do), the passengers would’ve suffered hypoxia in about 10 seconds and have died not too long thereafter. Meantime, the flight crew have separate oxygen tanks that he/they would’ve used to stay alive. It’s pretty much the quickest and most bloodless way to do a mass execution of the passengers without even having to watch it happen/march them one-by-one off the plane once landed/etc.

My money is still on this being a hijacking for the plane itself, not the passenger. They just happened to steal a plane that has the longest possible distance flown on a full tank of gas. At the weight of a flight crew, no passengers and a nuclear payload, the East Coast is well within range, even if they have to take the “long way ‘round” around the tip of southern Africa to avoid radar.

  • Condoleezza Rice calls for a ‘compassionate’ immigration policy at RNC

    08/30/2012 4:42:06 AM PDT · 128 of 161
    seraphMTH to newzjunkey

I took Rice’s immigration position to mean, especially since it was given in the context of Silicon Valley entrepreneurship, that our immigration policy should be “compassionate” (i.e., favor) those who are educated, skilled, and have high-thinking, high-value human capital assets to bring to bear for which we may have a shortage. It’s important to favor the best and the brightest minds getting in, like we did in the past before opening the floodgates to no-value, bottom-barrel leechers of our system. Favoring brainiacs by, for example, moving them to the head of the line, is exactly what we need in a globalized, highly-competitve economy. “Compassion” as she applied it means breaking rank with a purely first-in-time, first-in-right legal immigration policy to select for those who will add the most to the American ethos without depriving existing Americans of opportunities. Anyone who has lived in Silicon Vallry has seen how prolific the concentration of first-generation, highly accomplished immigrants live there to contribute to the most important economic engine our economy has, and that brainpower selectivity should be applied to the entire system so that those sorts of folks are the ones we’re prioritizing in by having “compassion” for what they offer and move them to the front of the line.

  • Glenn Beck's health

The first thing that came to mind given his symptoms and the fact that doctors are at a loss is Lyme Disease. Anyone can get it from a random tick bite. A couple of weeks after you get the bite, you first experience flu like systems, but the symptoms quickly transition to neurological disturbances, non-specific muscular tremors, vision changes, etc. The CDC estimates that 90% of Lyme Disease sufferers don’t even realize they have the disease and are either being treated incorrectly or for psychological stuff like depression or anxiety because the doctors can’t figure out what is wrong.

Blood tests can and should be done, and there are a few good ones out there to indicate the presence of Lyme Disease. The sooner it is treated, the better. There are antibiotics out there (long-stage antibiotics of many months if it’s been a few months since you contracted it) that can cure the disease. But there is no way to recover if you don’t treat it - it stays with you causing a steady-state of misery for the rest of your life unless you treat it.

My mother has it (God bless her), and it struck me that Glenn Beck is sounding a lot like the way she described her medical condition and sentiments in the early stage of the disease.

Any way to at least raise Beck’s awareness to at least look into this possibility?

This comparison is a bit trollish, considering that using the same graphs you’ll see that Obama is tracking AHEAD of Clinton and about even with Reagan at the same points in their presidency. and both of them were 2-termers.

in other words, it’s a bit disingenuous to use an Obama v. Carter characterization to prove a point when nothing can really be proved at this juncture.
