Mazda Motor Corp. is expected to end production of its vehicles in the United States. The automaker is considering selling its 50-percent stake in its U.S. joint venture with Ford Motor Co., AutoAlliance International Inc. in Flat Rock, Michigan, to Ford in two years, sources said June 3. Mazda is expected to shift production to its Hofu plant in Yamaguchi Prefecture and export vehicles to the United States. President Takashi Yamanouchi has said: "I want to fundamentally solve the problems that Mazda is saddled with (such as the U.S. operations)." In fiscal 2010, AutoAlliance International produced only 45,000 Mazda vehicles,...

My family went to McDonald's for lunch today, to consume our usual $1 McDoubles and shared fries and drinks. The bottom line is that it sounds like businesses have anticipated this vote and are initiating the process of cutting jobs to keep costs down. The managers were having a meeting and we ended up sitting down right next to them. I don't know their McJobTitles, but basically most of them were store managers and one of them was a traveling manager for the area. My ears pricked up as I heard heated tones! The store managers were protesting that too...

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana campaign workers for Barack Obama said Wednesday they were not correctly paid for canvassing they did for the campaign. Workers told 6News' Ericka Flye that they are overjoyed that Obama won, but upset that they are not getting paid what they thought they would. The campaign mostly used volunteers, but needed some extra help in the final days, so they hired some workers.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama on Wednesday said he wants to rid the world of nuclear weapons and pledged to fight emerging threats posed by biological and cyber-terrorism. It's time to send a clear message to the world: America seeks a world with no nuclear weapons," the White House hopeful said. "As long as nuclear weapons exist, we'll retain a strong deterrent. But we'll make the goal of eliminating all nuclear weapons a central element in our nuclear policy." The remarks, delivered at Purdue University in Indiana before a roundtable discussion with foreign policy experts, come as...

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Democrat Barack Obama warned Wednesday about the danger of "fighting the last war" as he pledged to focus on emerging nuclear, biological and cyber threats if elected president. Two goals of his administration would be to secure all loose nuclear material during his first term and to rid the world of nuclear weapons, Obama told an audience before a roundtable discussion at Purdue University. Obama said adhering to nonproliferation treaties would put pressure on nations such as North Korea and Iran. North Korea has tested a nuclear weapon and Iran has an energy program the...

Fats hidden in thousands of foods can harm a woman’s chance of having a baby, scientists said yesterday. They can increase the risk of fertility problems by 70 per cent or more. Eating as little as one doughnut or a portion of chips a day can have a damaging effect. The scientists behind the study advised women who want to have a baby to avoid the fats, known as trans fats. They are used in thousands of processed foods, from chocolate to pies, as well as take-away meals. They have no nutritional value but are included simply to extend the...

OCEANSIDE, Calif., July 8 — As a single woman in her early 60s living near San Diego, Calif. and making less than $40,000 a year, Nancy Ross is finding it harder to make ends meet these days. So she was hoping the recent federal income tax cut would make life a little easier. But with state and local tax increases more than offsetting her federal tax break, she’s slipping further behind. NANCY ROSS WON’T GET much help from the recently enacted Bush tax cut. She’ll get a small break from the provision that expands the 10 percent bracket to cover...
