I would have been out sooner, but I was fixing my hair.

  • OG-BYN - Kerry flubs during debate

The whole 1993 or and five or eight years later comment was terrible. As if none of the other terrorist attacks between 1993 and 2001 mattered. They sure as hell mattered to those who lost their lives and their families. His implication that none of the actions taken by the US had any effect to me is the most remarkably bad statement that he could have made.

Will W. make us of it?

I just watched the debate on tape after listening on the radio on the way home. Is it just me, or was Edwards hands shaking? If he can't stand the heat of a debate, how can he stand the pressures of the big office?

    Can someone else verify?

  • Is Kerry still carrying shrapnel?

I am not sure what all three purple hearts were for, but my impression is that none appeared to have left shrapnel in Kerry's body, nor was there any "spilled blood". Can anyone fill me in on the exact nature of the three purple hearts.
  • Clinton in Interview Meltdown over Contrition Credibility

Scot7278 may be right. Team Clinton specifically went to CBS and told them that Clinton flew into a fit of rage during Starr's videotaped questioning. Half the country tuned in to the television coverage to see Clinton handle the questions very well. Rather and the "Face the Nation" star sat there and gushed about how well he had handled compared to what they had thought. (For the life of me I can't remember who hosts Face the Nation) but he actually stated on camera that he had been the one that Team Clinton had approached regarding the blow up.

Clinton still wants to be UN President. This is being broadcast in Europe and they don't seem to mind the infidelity there as much as we do.

  • Something that doesn't add up in the Iraq war (vanity)

I think the reason is more basic. Afghanistan is very open with small villages that are sparcely populated. With our infrared cameras, we can pick out soldiers from literally, a mile away. Once seen, they are easily dispatched.

Iraq on the other hand has large cities that are in many areas, very disorganized with with plenty of hiding places provided by the urban setting. While this does not defeat all of our technology, it does allow them to get a little closer and to actually engage us for a brief period of time before we put steel on target.

If I was fighting, as opposed to simply blowing myself up, I would prefer Iraq as well.

  • Scuba-diving brothers who also were best friends drown in an underground siphon in Lehi

This is not cave diving. It may be classified as such, but it is not. I am a diver and grew up with one of these near by. The water is running very strong, and there is all kinds of debris that ends up stuck in them. They pulled 9 vehicles out of the one near our home one year.

When ever some unfortunately and normally drunk soul was lost in it, the rescue divers would never go in. They always drained it as well, too easy to get fouled by debris or tangled up with your rescue line. Believe it or not, we had someone actually time the passage of water, and then jump in while attempting to hold their breath.

I never used to miss it. But with the Cart/IRL debacle, with AJ rambling on about non-Americans winning the race and the fact that it was getting too expensive to run cars there, they have taken the race out of the race. AJ destroyed the whole thing. I actually forgot it was on today. My only passing interest anymore is hoping for Michael to finally win one. I guess it was not to be yet again.

AJ Foyt personally destroyed the thing. Now the IRL is simply boring with all the restrictions they have, and CART won't race on a track where you can pass.

In Viet Nam, we lost 47,369 soldiers in combat, with another 10,799 to other causes associated with the war. The war lasted from 1964 to 1975. During that same time period, the Viet Cong lost more than 2,000,000 soldiers to combat.

To put this in perspective, we lost 11 soldiers a day compared to 498.

During the conflict, we had over 8,700,000 enrolled military personal. Your chances of being KIA were 0.2%.

2,594,000 troops actually served within the borders. Meaning that you had a 1.8% chance of being KIA 1.8% if you actually set foot within the borders.

The Viet Cong lost almost as many KIA as we had posted on the ground during the entire war.

I'd say we prosecuited the war fairly effectively. We just simply did not have the leadership to win.

Makes you think.... One of the reports indicated that they intercepted the ship and escorted it to the dock for inspection. This is not typical, but rather the customs officials will inspect the ship (remember on 2% of all cargo entering the US gets inspected) once is has docked but before it has off-loaded.

The reports indicate that they clearly were worried about stow-aways, but then detected the radioactivity. What types of cargo might leave enough radioactive contamination to give off readings that we could detect? There has been talk of having custom inspectors wear devices that can detect nuclear particles, but are these actually in service?

How long have we been watching this ship? I haven't heard a single report of this other than on the web.
