Gosh, you seem pretty paranoid about the Chinese! Let me guess! A few years ago,it was the Russians. Am I right?

Now I can't help wondering;why on earth would they come all the way down here to bother us?

Would it be for our strategic geographical position? Our unlimited mineral resources? Our huge land mass? Or is it our advanced military technology they'd be after? Hey I know! They're after our sheep! Of course! They'd keep Beijing and Shanghai going for a few weeks.

Personally I think the Chinese are more interested in Taiwan, don't you?

As an ex SEAL, I would've thought your strategic thinking would be better than that!

And as for 20000 PLA troops coming at us with slingshots, isn't that more or less what the Somali Warlords downed your aircraft with in Mogadishu?

"And after they fly commercial to the staging areas, I am sure that the US and UK will find a spot for them on OUR C-130s and helos."

Yeah ok, but please don't be offended if we use the Brits' transport over yours;after the debacle some years back with the attempted rescue of US hostages from Tehran,I'd feel safer with the RAF.

If I remember rightly, that disaster would've been averted if only your guys had listened to the advice that was offered; advice that came from British and Kiwi SAS personnel.

But,as usual, you Yanks know best don't you!

Your profile says you're a former navy SEAL who lives in San Diego, and you post a picture of yourself?

    Well, how stupid is that??

A true elite soldier will never openly criticize another elite soldier.

Just a sign of professionalism, that's all!

"Will Helen keep that very loyal Orion to get her back from Aussie next time she's under siege in Melbourne's transit lounge or will the army build a Bayley bridge over the Tasman?"

I hear that the Air Force now wants to disband it's transport capability.

That way, the next time the Aussies prevent her from leaving their shores, they'll have to bloody well keep her!lol.

"I'm not aware of many intense battles over the last 30 years that NZ SAS took part."

Ahh,you inadvertantly said it all here mgstarr.

No publicity, low profile, operating all around the globe and, despite the ANZUS thing,we still operate with the US.

Not even the NZ public or most of our politicians know what we get up to.....

Btw, read in your profile,"soon to be Kiwi." So, Welcome in!! Regards.

"Frankly speaking, the game plan really doesn't hinge upon which way New Zealand goes."

Personally I myself didn't think it did!

But judging by the number and content of posts on this subject, one could be excused for thinking otherwise.

"Just 24 hours before the attack on America, New Zealand’s Labour Government destroyed this country’s own strike force capacity by dismantling our fighter jets from the airforce."

Don't know where you got this from, but the timing is wrong. This actually happened a few months back.A good sign that our country is run by greenies and narrow minded pacifists.

    Crazy isn't it!

Sheesh, where did you get this crap from?

A labour strike during a world war? This would've amounted to treason!

If the US Marines had to load/unload their own equipment at a NZ port during the war, this would've been because of either manpower shortages due to the war effort or because they themselves didn't want civilians handling their equipment, both understandable.

The only time I've heard of any labour dispute around that time was the 1951 waterfront dispute which was in fact an employee lockout.

You wanna consider suing your history teacher, angry little boy!

    Nice post zcat,both of them

This morning I donated $500 towards a fund that our firefighters have set up to assist their colleagues in NYC. This is a not unsubstantial amount to me as I am not rich, but it is an indication of my feelings and those of most of my countrymen, to the tragic events of the past week. So understandably, I am pretty p***** off at the amount of Kiwi bashing that I have seen on this site over the past couple of days citing us as a bunch of deserters.

The truth of the matter is, our Government has pledged our support, President Bush has expressed appreciation for that.

If needed, this would probably be in the form of Special Forces (NZ Special Air Service),the same group that was responsible for destroying the Scud missiles so that coalition forces could mount their air raids in the Gulf War without the threat of being blown away. Our conventional forces are busy with the East Timor situation; this wouldn't be a suitable operation for them anyway.

As for our leadership, we know we have a Government that is leading us down an isolationist path. I mean, an Air Force with no combat capability; this would be laughable if it were not so serious! Helen Clark had her aircraft barricaded by Australian protestors last week at Melbourne Airport. They prevented her from leaving for five hours. We're pretty mad at those Aussies; cos' they eventually let her go!

One thing that we have in common with the US, is that we don't go storming Parliament when we don't like what the Government is doing. This is part of living in a Democracy; our time comes around at the next elections. Hopefully we will still have people here to vote by then!

That's probably true, because at the time, our servicemen were too busy overseas protecting France and Italy and fighting in the Middle East. Just ask any old Frenchman or Italian about our contribution to their countries during WW2. They treat our nationals like gods!
