  • ACORN votes are nothing but 'cover'

NO — just an average Joe, really really really pissed about the last 2 elections. I think conservatism has to return to its roots in order to win elections. Millions hollering sounds good, but it takes more than that. It takes majorities, and the American people do not like hypocrisy. Pointing out the hypocrisy of libs is one thing. NOT being hypocritical ourselves, though, is critical.

About the bill of attainder thing. Before you jump on me for defending ACORN, what I mean is, there no doubt already are laws against what ACORN did and their funding must be pulled because of those. There is no need for congress to do this — it is up to the courts. That’s why BoTs are illegal. They effectively punish before there has been a trial, NOT, as has been mentioned in other threads on this subject, because BoTs themselves are indictments, trials, and verdicts. This whole thing is a distraction. ACORN must be smashed — using a BoT to do it is a mistake. My opinion.

Are you saying there are TWO Gahan Wilson cartoons - one where the kids selling the 5 cent lemonade look creepy and another where the lemonade kids look wholesome?

What ACORN does is despicable. Our recent very strong emphasis on following the Consitution during the Obamacare debates, however, has had me studying every word. There is something in there that says a bill of attainder is illegal.

Apparently, when the Constitution was being written, the British Parliament had a history of punishing people and organizations it didn’t like (legislation targeting a specific person or organization for the purpose of punishment is called a bill of attainder), and the Founding Fathers decided it was up to the courts or other agencies to be responsible for finding guilt and punishment, not Congress.

The ACORN legislation is clearly unconstitutional because it is a bill of attainder, and I think Conservatives should oppose it to show we stand for the principle of Constitutional law, always, not just when it leads to an end we support. We’re telling liberals to follow the Constitution. We should do no less than follow our own advice. THEY are hypocritical. WE should not be.

Frankly, I hope I’m not the only one who worries our party has been taken over by a bunch of maniacs who are determined to see it destroyed. For example, I think Dick Morris is a frickin’ neanderthal for saying “maybe they don’t come home. Maybe they go to North Korea and they live with the consequences of their decision to go there.” This almost seems CALCULATED to turn people off to Republicans. Hello? Axis of Evil anybody? These women went over, at great danger, to expose what is happening in North Korea. And this jerk-off says it is a mistake to rescue two American citizens. Un-f*cking-believable. Dick Morris, go back to being a Democrat, so we can hate you again.

You seem to be a good person to ask this of. I know I risk getting kicked out of the group for this, as I have seen others booted for far less risky behavior, but personally I can’t shake the notion that health care, like the defense industry, ought to be special. I am talking about profitting. I agree that as defending the nation became more technological, we needed the advances that come from competition, hence the need for the profit motive. But how can you justify permitting a company to make huge profits (and hence million dollar salaries) in the provision of health insurance? Simply explain to me where is the need for the incentive that profit gives? The reason I ask is, I know things, for a variety of reasons, look extremely rosy for the 2010 elections. But the current behavior shown on TV screens across the country of people shouting at meetings instead of encouraging a thoughtful debate about health insurance could, mark my words, damage us. I’m certain you’ll disagree, but I want you to see my motive for asking the question. (It’s similar to the concern I expressed elsewhere when Glenn Beck appeared to agree with a guy who suggested we’d all be better off if bin Laden set off a nuke inside the country.)

Well thanks. Let me tell you, I very much agree with you.

Now I’m going to go off and see if I can get some other folks around here to agree that we need to be a little less herd-like. I hope I don’t get into too much trouble! ;-)

AYK?? No, I would never watch that commie. But I saw the Scheuer interview. I realize I am going against the grain here. I’ve read freerepublic for years and I’ve watched Glenn Beck since his shows began. No — what bothers me is that we do not seem to self-criticize very well. I’ve watched a number of posters here with thoughtful crits be banned. I’m very uncomfortable with the current status of the Republican party. It’s fun to read this blog, but it would be even better to get a fifth vote on SCOTUS to ban baby killing. To do that, I think we need to broaden our appeal, and when Scheuer suggests the only thing that would save the country would be for a lot of Americans to be murdered, I disagree and would like to see Republicans rise up and say this is insanity. Instead, becaue it was on Glenn’s show, people make a bunch of sarcastic comments but basically let it pass. I decided to post here because I’d like to understand how this can be acceptable to Conservative patriotic Americans, except as some kind of sick joke, but Scheuer was serious. It bothers me. Why can’t we weed out nuts like this — and why do we all have to agree with eachother or else get kicked out? But mostly, why didn’t Beck tell the guy it was treasonous?

Where do things stand now on the Scheuer thing? I heard some people suggesting a re-evaluation, which I would support.

Now Nancy's complaining that the DSCC isn't giving a dime to the Maine Senate campaign for the Democrat candidate (Hay-Bright). Well, we know the dems have never been very bright when it comes to counting. Funny that of all the states this year with Republican senators up for re-election, the only ones with Democratic governors which were also Blue in 2004 are Maine and Pennsylvania. Looking at the demographics, a dollar spent in Maine would count like $7 or $8 spend in Pennsylvania, if you just compare the number of voters in the two states. Naturally the brilliant libs are spending exactly $0 in Maine. LOL.
