ACORN votes are nothing but 'cover'
WND ^ | September 19, 2009 | Bob Unruh

U.S. Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, the top Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, is demanding a straight up-or-down vote on a bill dedicated to removing ACORN from the list of recipients of federal largesse, or says he'll force the issue.

And a key conservative vote, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., says unless there is such an action, it will mean the recent votes on that very issue were nothing but "cover."

Bachmann says, is that the votes were on amendments to different bills and "still have far to go before they reach the president's pen for signature into law."

The problem is that everything is attached to something else that depends on what is amended to the attached bill that extends to countless laws extending to the voting procedures that are attached to the proper protocol... etc. etc.

Up or down vote only, a thorough investigation and proper jail sentences for ALL.

Yes take them down now while America is watching. Make sure ACORN and none of it’s affiliates gets another dime of our tax dollars!

Good on John Boehner!

You can bet that the corrupt Democrats in the Congress have planned among themselves to (oh-so-quietly) de-defund their ACORN allies in crime at some midnight opportunity to write the final form of the bill.

If they don’t do a vote on this acorn will scatter like the cock-a-roaches that they are.

Love Michelle B. This is all a shell game by the Dems. They rushed these votes but ACORN will be reformed under another name and scam. Evil Dems.

BUMP that! They are busy shredding everything that might be used as evidence against them. Meanwhile Dem politicians posture and play games and appear to be concerned. We'll see.

Defund Acorn for real and don’t let it continue or morph into another group.

Defund Acorn for real and don’t let it continue or morph into another group.

It already has. Back in Chicago, Madeline Talbott

and her friends
http://actionnow.org/

are busy ragging the banks to “modify” the kind of loans that they’ve been ragging them since the 1990’s to make:

One more proof, if any is needed, that with these people, “No ‘good deed’ will go unpunished.”

They remind me of that famous Gahan Wilson “lemonade stand” cartoon, where creepy looking kids are selling lemonade for 5c from their streetside stand and, around the corner, their confederates are selling the antidote for $5. Given the complicity of “big pharma” in the drive for Obamacare, that cartoon should be revived and applied in that even more relevant discussion. It is well described in this essay on political advertising:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/stephen-ducat/propaganda-101-how-to-dec_b_130119.html

A second strategy employed in advertising can be called the “get’m sick, get’m well” approach. A disturbing emotion, like fear or envy, is generated in the first half of the ad narrative, and is associated with the competing product or candidate. This is antidoted by the second half of the ad, in which a reassuring feeling, like safety or pride, is elicited, and linked to the commodity or politician being promoted. I’m reminded of an old Gahan Wilson cartoon. A group of wholesome-looking, all-American kids are selling lemonade at their makeshift street corner stand. The sign says, “Lemonade, Five Cents.” Around the corner we see customers gripping their bellies in agony and lurching toward another stand, where the kids with a more demonic countenance are sitting behind a sign that reads, “Lemonade Antidote, Fifty Dollars.” Get’m sick, get’m well.

What ACORN does is despicable. Our recent very strong emphasis on following the Consitution during the Obamacare debates, however, has had me studying every word. There is something in there that says a bill of attainder is illegal.

Apparently, when the Constitution was being written, the British Parliament had a history of punishing people and organizations it didn’t like (legislation targeting a specific person or organization for the purpose of punishment is called a bill of attainder), and the Founding Fathers decided it was up to the courts or other agencies to be responsible for finding guilt and punishment, not Congress.

The ACORN legislation is clearly unconstitutional because it is a bill of attainder, and I think Conservatives should oppose it to show we stand for the principle of Constitutional law, always, not just when it leads to an end we support. We’re telling liberals to follow the Constitution. We should do no less than follow our own advice. THEY are hypocritical. WE should not be.

Absolutely. Bachmann and DeMint are distinguishing themselves in our lackluster Congress and Senate respectively.

Are you saying there are TWO Gahan Wilson cartoons - one where the kids selling the 5 cent lemonade look creepy and another where the lemonade kids look wholesome?

About the bill of attainder thing. Before you jump on me for defending ACORN, what I mean is, there no doubt already are laws against what ACORN did and their funding must be pulled because of those. There is no need for congress to do this — it is up to the courts. That’s why BoTs are illegal. They effectively punish before there has been a trial, NOT, as has been mentioned in other threads on this subject, because BoTs themselves are indictments, trials, and verdicts. This whole thing is a distraction. ACORN must be smashed — using a BoT to do it is a mistake. My opinion.

I agree, we cannot behave as they do and expect to be honored. Are you an attorney as you appear to know the law well?

NO — just an average Joe, really really really pissed about the last 2 elections. I think conservatism has to return to its roots in order to win elections. Millions hollering sounds good, but it takes more than that. It takes majorities, and the American people do not like hypocrisy. Pointing out the hypocrisy of libs is one thing. NOT being hypocritical ourselves, though, is critical.

Agree.

I think we need a grass roots solution with the slogan "DRAIN THE SWAMP!

Let's throw them all out... Rs & D's... and start over. And then, let's keep doing it for maybe 10 or 20 years, and these professional parasites who are the politicians and those who hang on them will get the message that they can make a better living in their natural professions such as prostitution, loan sharking or TV infomercials.

I was going to add used car sales, but that would be an insult to even the sleazist used car salesman. At least you get a car out of those guys.

I’m only aware of one, and if you saw it, I doubt you would describe the kids Gahan drew as “wholesome looking”, but perhaps the individual I quoted has different standards.
