While President Barack Obama has been named the 2012 Time Magazine Person of the Year, a far more deserving person for that honor is a young woman named Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani who the Taliban tried to murder.

Allahpundit at Hot Air is relating what he thinks may be a nightmare scenario for 2016, the presidential candidacy of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, the brother of one former president and the son of another. It just smacks too much of dynastic politics. This is especially true if Bush wound up running against Hillary Clinton, the wife of a former president, former senator and soon to be former secretary of state. There is an alternative, however

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has voted narrowly to forbid public nudity in the City by the Bay. This is considered to be outrageous by defenders of the right to public expression.

Almost as irritating as the war on Christmas being waged by certain atheist groups is the war on Thanksgiving dinner being waged by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as exemplified by its recent demand on President Obama.

The late George McGovern is best known for his disastrous 1972 campaign for the presidency which was built around his opposition to American intervention in Vietnam. Less well known was his proposal for a military intervention just six years later.
  • What If the 9/11 Attacks Had Not Happened?

What if the attacks of 9/11 had not happened? The point of departure, as it is termed in alternate history, is the death of Khalid Sheik Mohammed sometime in the late 1990s, before he developed the plan to hijack airliners and fly them into buildings. The history, thus far, of the 21st century would have been vastly different. Besides the World Trade Center still gracing the skyline of New York City, the invasion of Afghanistan would not have occurred. Iraq likely would not have been invaded either. Almost 10,000 Americans, dead on 9/11 and the subsequent War on Terror, would...
  • Beijing's South China Sea Grab an International Crisis

James Webb, the outgoing Democratic Senator from Virginia, is sounding the alarm about the next big world crisis taking place in the South China Sea. Naturally, the Obama administration is doing nothing about it in hopes the crisis will go away. Beijing has, in effect, laid sovereign claim to much of the South China Sea, including the Paracel Islands. China is also clashing with the Philippines over the Spratley Islands and with Japan over the Senkaku Islands. China is prepared to back up these claims by establishing a small colony on Woody Island in the Paracels with a military garrison...

  • What Obama is Thinking in Promise to Make Texas a Battleground

According to the Washington Examiner, President Obama ventured to Texas in search of more campaign cash. However, while addressing a crowd of donors, Obama actually suggested that the Lone Star State would become a battleground state "soon." On the surface, this seems like a mad thing to say. Texas is about as deep red a state as there is in the union, with all statewide offices and both houses of the legislature in the hands of the Republicans. The last time a Democrat carried Texas, Jimmy Carter was running for president in 1976

Evidence is starting to pour in that suggests that while the Obama administration may have won the battle by having health care reform declared constitutional, it may have lost the war where it concerns the president being re-elected in the fall.

If the White House and congressional Democrats are looking forward to the prospect of Tea Party-inspired senators and congressmen with fear and loathing, the Republican Senate leadership seems only a little less nervous.

A motion picture biopic of President Reagan is in the works, to be entitled, simply, "Reagan." Unlike the infamous miniseries, "Reagan" the movie will be respectful of its subject. That would make the Reagan film cutting edge by Hollywood standards indeed. According to the Hollywood Reporter the producers behind the Reagan movie, based on two biographies of the iconic President, "The Crusader" and "God and Ronald Reagan" by Paul Krengor, are themselves veteran filmmakers:

Jeffery Goldberg, of The Atlantic, recently went to Cuba and had an interview with elderly retired dictator Fidel Castro. Goldberg recounted what transpired in a recent article. Castro had some surprising things to say. For one thing, tyrant to tyrant, Fidel Castro had some advice to Iranian dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The former dictator of Cuba admonished the current Iranian dictator for the latter's anti-Semitism. Castro suggested that Ahmadinejad's hatred of Jews was moving Iran into a confrontation with Israel and the United States that might well spark a nuclear war.
