Interesting. Currently, the USA Beef cow population is at a 50-60 year low. Presently, slaughter is about 30 million for steers and heifers with steers comprising about 18 - 22 million.
Mari Sandoz in her book “The Buffalo Hunters” states in the forward that “In 1492, the present United states held perhaps little over two hundred fifty thousand Indians while the buffalo was estimated all the way from fifty to one hundred twenty-five millions, depending to some extent upon whether the estimator had seen the wide dark herds of the Great Plains”
All of this concern over greenhouse gas with existing herd numbers pales when compared to the historical context.
